Worst Opener Ever!!!

Yesterday was a day I wish I would've stayed home My plan was to hop from spot to spot in east central MN. My 1st stop I break one of my reels, now I need to buy a new one. 2nd stop I walk through what had to be a wood tick nest...I must've had at least 50 of them crawling all over me, and was flicking them off me the rest of the day But you know the old saying, bad things happen in 3's, and it certainly did! 3rd stop I lock myself out of my truck! Yep, I had to break my own window to get into my truck And to add insult to injury, I didn't catch a single fish! I'm sure someday I'll laugh about this, but right now it sucks!!!

The man who 1st took me fishing taught me 2 things.

1) Life ain't nothin' but a s&%t sandwich, some days you just get more bread.

2) Always have an extra set of boat keys in your truck and an extra set of truck keys in the boat.

I do not know if this will make you feel any better and maybe there is a thread open about bad days on a lake but one year when I went up north with my dad we got stuck, van and boat , on the path down to the lake . There was some rain the week before and someone must have gone through there four wheeling but any way we got hung up big time. I was able to unhook the boat and after a hour of so of pushing logs and anything else we could find under the wheels we were able to get the van out. I forgot, by the way it was just a beautiful day out and all I wanted to do was get out on that lake. We were able to find drier land to drive around the water pit and get down to the lake. Wouldnt you know it by the time we get out on the lake the skys decide to get dark and the lightning starts cracking and we are in a full out thunderstorm. It was a good thing I young because it almost gives me a heart attack thinking about it again. Hope it makes you feel a little better. Good days will be ahead!!!!!

Does triple A have guys that can pick locks? I'm not a member, but yesterday's events sure are motivation to get the ball rolling.

Here's a cheaper alternative, just take a spare key and screw it in under your license plate in the back, using the screws for the plate. Works great, and if you ever lock yourself out again, your key is right there and you can use almost anything to get the screw out, including loose change.

Yeah triple a does have lockout service. I have got to say its a huge piece of mind. Its nice because for what it costs for one tow your covered for a couple years. The lockout service is included and the travel services and discount are sweet if your able to use them.

I do got to say with confidence you and I both have gotten the bad juju out of the bag for the year (mine was last weekend and included poison ivy). It will only be better from here on out!

Wallet would probably be the best place for it. The license plate idea is pretty good too, but wouldn't the key rust?

If you have full coverage on your vehicle, many insurance companies have a roadside assistance program. My fiance, ironically, locked her keys in the car yesterday when she was in Brainerd. Insurance covered $50 and she paid $15 to get a guy with a slim jim there. She was on her way in about 2 hrs on the Sunday evening during fishing opener. I thought that was reasonable. Just something to keep in mind.

Or get a Ford with the lock combination on the outside of the doors. I ALWAYS lock my keys in my truck on purpose. Then I just punch in the numbers on the outside of the door and it opens up. I never have to worry about losing my keys when I'm fishing.

It is nice to be able to intentionally lock your keys in your car. Most people think there will never be a situation where that'll be necessary but there's a number of ways it's useful.

Sorry to hear about your luck, but I agree with the others, you can relax now that's out of the way.

I lost my keys in the creek once, now I keep them on a lanyard, but on the bright side when I went back with a magnet I found a nice little ultra-lite combo.

I did my good deed Sat night for one bunch of "well oiled guys" coming off the lake at our campground to shut off his locator so he could go out the next day! Not sure how he could have missed it glowing when I could see it about 40 yards away coming down the dock! He tanked me! But he must have been out of Beer!

Ok, so "never" isn't maybe the right word, but for 5 years it's worked flawlessly, and so I'll keep doing it.

Even if you killed the battery, there still should be 2 batteries in the boat that'll last long enough to get your keys. Besides keys or no keys your vehicle isn't going anywhere on a dead battery.
