Favorite Bass Lure

If you could only have one lure to fish for bass, what would you use?

I'll go first - Jig n Pig, green pumpkin color - I used to be a huge crankbait fisherman, but now I throw jigs on 75% of my casts.

All things considered, I would have to go with a senko type worm with about an 1/8 oz nail in the back of the worm rigged weedless. It seems to work no matter what. Although pig-n-jig is a very close second.

Sunfish colored swim jig.. Its the most versatile lure in my opinion. Can be straight retrieved like a spinnerbait. Can be burned just under the surface like a wake bait. Can be jigged like a jig, can be fished like a frog across the top of matted grass. it skips well you can fish it in 2 feet of water or 20 feet of water..

I also love the Senko....but if it's a very windy day, it makes fishing senko's much more difficult. So, if I could have only 1 for evry condition, I'd have to go with a powerworm on a jig head...simple yet effecive in all conditions!

Agreed Tonka, being a Skeeter owner what did you think of the FX with the SHO at the show?

I thought it was a sharp looking boat and the sho is probably gonna be an awesome motor. I'm sure it will fish like their other boats. I thought it was a little flashy with the gelcoated glass around the rear of the trailer. I would take it though smile

I do with skeeter would put the nice rod buckles on the deck though... bungees are a joke

I have to agree with Deitz. A swim jig is the only lure I have tied on 100% of the time. I use jigs and cranks a lot, but I can promise anytime I am in the boat, there is a swim jig tied on one of my rods.

Toss up for me, GP senko or blugill swimjig. Both are so versatile. Shallow - deep and everything in-between. Open water or thick cover. There are a lot of good swimjigs out there, I am partial to Super K. Hand tied, great color selection and awesome hooks. Not available retail, that I know of. Google it for a HSOforum. He is out of Wisconsin. Met him and his jigs at a show at the St. Paul Armory last spring. They did not have that show this year, David Dudley gave a great presentation.

I would have to keep up with the Deitz's and say a swim jig. Like it has been said you can do so much with it and it works everywhere. As far as line I throw it on 40-50lb Power Pro and for a trailer 4 inch grub in the spring into summer and a swimming type craw or chunk summer into fall. It was tough not to go with a Tube X because you can usually find a spot to fish that on any lake as well.
