is the portable big buddy necessary? what about the portable buddy? curious as the portable buddy is on sale for 69.99 this week

It depends on the size of your house. I have 2 smaller portables and the smaller buddy works fine running at either 3000 BTU or 5000 BTU. I usually start it on the higher setting and then keep it on the lower setting the rest of the time. They are nice heaters as well, and one 1 lb. tank will last about 4 - 7 hrs depending on what you set it at.

Depends on which portable and weather. I use a buddy heater in my pro-scout, if it's not enough I'll add a sunspot to the tank and run both. My quik-fish 2, sometimes will require the use of the double sunspot. I like to fish in a lite jacket. My hands been frozen to many times, they don't well out in the cold. I got some really good gloves, but hard to remove and rebait hooks.

I have a regular Buddy heater in my Clam Pro and rarely have it on high. If the winds are honking and windchill gets -25 or so I'll put it on high. I usually have only a t-shirt and maybe a flannel shirt on and NO gloves as I like to be able to feel the rod work.
