0 bobbymalone
i have a blanket, some gloves, and an extra hat. Of course, I live in the metro so it would pretty much have to be post apocalyptic for me to use this stuff or need anything more than a pair of jumper cables.....I think if I lived in Buttscratch, MN I would start with my 0 degree mummy bag and some sort of emergency car starter / cell phone charger. 0 paul pachowicz
Living in a rural area makes for some forethought on what a person would need to survive one of our blizzards, if caught out in it in a vehicle. We both have coffee cans with candles, matches, lighters, candy bars, glow sticks with string to use swing like a lasso, Mag-lite, TP, cheapo leatherman tool and chemical boot warmers. Also a bag with gloves, stocking cap, hooded shirt with boots warmers in the pockets, socks. We keep this stuff in the passenger compartment of the outfits. Really don't matter where a guy lives, they are a pretty cheap insurance package to carry around.
0 landscaper
I pretty much have the same as Paul. I store it all in a rubbermade tub with......TP candles blankets hand warmers, sterno cans and such peanuts. ALso in another little tool box i have a 2x30 tow strap and clevises made to fit my front tow hooks on truck jumper cables rubber tie tows and ratchet straps which that tool box is ALWAYS in the truck. The Glow sticks would be a good idea. 0 deadeye
Good call posting this one up. Its a real bummer to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere and not have anything to make it easier. Im pretty much on the same level as you guys. I got a bin that I throw all that stuff into and leave it in the truck. One thing that I really like are the cheap wool army blankets that FF and surplus stores carry. They are really warm and stay warm even if they are wet. Well worth $10. 0 Northlander
Everything I would take ice fishing I always have in my ruck. I also always have some sort of food and water along for a ride especially if going out of town. I also make sure I have my cel phone and cxharger with me and whistles. Flashlights too of course. 0 Tom7227
One of the mylar survival blankets is a very small package and can really keep you warm. I made some out of the long roll of mylar they had to homecoming decorations a while back. A cell phone and a charger could come in handy, even an old one that doesn't have active service as you can dial 911 even with those. I read that a piece of rope could come in handy to use as a tether if you for some reason had to go outside. A tin measuring cup would work well to melt snow if needed. Problem with flashlights is dead batteries. I like the glow sticks thing.I can tell you from experience that Snicker bars that have been in one of these rigs for 2 years are inedible. Roll can in blanket. Tape blanket around can with several wraps of duct tape (What CAN'T duct tape do? Even used once)Toss one into back of each vehicle. 0 Ed Carlson
Dont forget a bottle of wild turkey. I suspect that was a joke, but in actuality it is best to skip the booze, it's temporary warmth but physically it just makes your body colder.A proven wiser bet is lots of instant Hot Chocolate packets. You can always melt snow and you need calories not alcohol to keep warm efficiently.Drinking yourself to sleep is a recipe for frostbite and or disaster in a winter survival situation. The only consolation would be, you will never know hat hit ya.
