City Limit Bucks

Recommended Posts

Saw 3 dandy bucks this weekend and they were all in the city limits of a town of about 3,800 people. The first I could've grabbed his rack if our window had been open, he was eating birdseed at 2:38AM, scared the begesus out of me. My dad delivering papers jumped a downtown buck and it was large, he's seen 4-5 good ones this fall. Another I saw on the other side of town in someone's yard and he was 3 1/2 or older. In all I saw 21 deer in town. I remember the days where the farther from town you were the better, not maybe this year or in recent times. Where 1 of my houses are the town one this monster had to walk by many homes and many dogs and I was surprised how brave he was to run by the church down the street(s) and wound up in my yard. Anyone else seeing this ? They are pretty smart and quite nocturnal.

I think with the recent gun season pressure the smarter deer understand they'll be safe among the houses, stores and churches. They'll probably disperse back into the surrounding countryside soon.

on my way through town to get out to my hunting grounds during shotgun season i seen a big buck coming back from an all nighter on the other side of the highway where u can hunt....seems he goes over there at dark then comes back into town before light and beds in some pines by a big group of houses...i've seen him before do the same thing.

Just talked to dad and he delivers papers to our house and he said haven't you seen him before ? I said no as I usually am not awake at those hours. Why I woke the other night and why I even looked out the window I'll never know. Man he was way trophy caliber, I knew our birdseed was getting hammered over night I figured coons/rabbits or early morning bird activity. My hope is I can find his sheds as they usually winter not too far away. I guess a bit why I was surprised is there are still standing soybeans and corn not too far away, maybe just wanted a mixture in his stomach ? If he would've kept his head still I could've had a better go at counting how many points he had. After he mopped the birdseed, he went to the I think it's mountain ash berries ? He hammered a gaggle of those then calmly walked down the street. Have had deer in the yard on occasion before just never a mature buck or any buck for that matter that I'm aware of, wish my Tcam wasn't in a tamarac swamp or I'd put it over the birdseed.

A good friend of mine from our hockey days hunts right next to the city limits. He said the mature buck hunt has gotten better every year, he drilled a dandy 12 pointer and said it was heading for town opening day but he stopped him with his 300mag. He saw many in person and had several different Tcam pics of trophy bucks. Pressure and intelligence must make em decide where there safest chance of survival is. I've learned something although it won't help dull my Schrade any time soon.

I remember about 10yrs. ago in SeMn there was a giant 12pt. that we had heard was living at the Rushford HS football field. Appparently he would leave at night to feed and come back during the early hours. Never would of believed unless I seen it myself.

about 4 years ago i was working nights. i came home late at night and was suprised to see this giant buck in the driveway. and then a couple months later i saw him again chasing a doe around the neighborhood. he stopped and i got a good look at him. 14 points and i would say it was around 170".

One of the biggest tanks I've ever seen was walking around a very posh neighborhood in the south end of Golden Valley. This brute would have easily scored 180+. He was absolutely beautiful, and symmetrical.

I believe there was some talk about him on a popular local radio show two summers ago. Not sure if anyone ever tagged that pig, but he was quite a dandy to observe walking amongst million dollar lake homes.

That trampoline picture is hilarious. Wouldn't want to be jumping up and down too hard on that thing - ouch!!!

City bucks, smart or Dumb? they arent getting shot at in a lot of cases...

My city (bloomington) has 85,000 people and i get bucks and does in my yard every evening. Pretty cool watching a 10 pointer picking up my pumpkins and shaking it like crazy in its mouth. Ill try and get a good picture of them eating apples out of the tree. Few nights back there was 3 bucks all standing on 2 legs eating right from the branches. Pretty funny.

Granted i am only 6 houses away from the river valley, but pretty cool non the less.

Heres a pic of a 14pointer, unfortunately killed by a car.

It's almost like the geese know it's safe in town, wouldn't be too tough for a seasoned deer to figure out the same thing. I have a feeling towns that have bedding cover in the city limits likely have good deer numbers in the cover. I guess regardless if you get at them or not most are likely nocturnal anyway. My t-cams lately show good movement between 1:00AM and 5AM. Muzzy in a few days, but why would any deer change the time of day they are traveling, cmon cold weather, get here.

Was leaving work a couple of weeks ago when a nice buck started to cross the road in front of me. He trotted across the opposite lane where the was not cars coming then stopped on the concrete median waited for myself about three other cars to stop then trotted across. Now that’s a urban deer
