LG vs. Vizio

Scoot

Question

I've got another TV question: I'm looking at two comparable TVs, one made by LG and one made by Vizio. I'm wondering if there are general brand differences regarding quality and reliability? Is one a better bet to last me for a while?

Vizio is American, but I have 0 experience with their product.

I have an LG Slim Fit,(HDTV but a friggen tube so it's 134lbs) and when the TV is on for more than 4 hours I get a resistor squeal, but besides that it's 4 years old and I'm happy with it.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. We've got 2 Visio's and have been happy with both.

I'd put Visio's picture quality up against anyone else's, it's equal or better. Thing with Visio is that they're not going to be first to market with anything. They're a follower, but they'll typically come out with lower prices than similar competitor models to gain market share.

Their TVs are made in China just like everyone elses. Go to web site and click "about vizio". In 2007, "# Grew to 85 employees

# Shipped a total of 2,900,000 HDTVs".

They may sell a fine tv and I would certainly consider one. But "buy American" really isn't in the picture when it comes to TV.

Vizio is American, kind of American. Its a American company but they do not really made anything. They buy different components from different companies and assembly them here. Vizio is a good brand because they use Samsung panels, so you pretty much get Samsung technology. Samsung is the top dog in the plasma, LCD, and LED market these days. So what you pretty much get is a cheaper Samsung tv without the Samsung price.

According to the web page I quoted they sold 2.9 million TVs and have 85 employees. They push paper. The TVs are all made by someone else. For all I know they are made by Samsung, sort of like whirlpool making kenmore. But 85 people had no physical contact with those 2.9 million televisions. It is impossible.

The 85 people are in Irvine California. Yes it is an american company.
