Chair in Stand

Buckcountry

Recommended Posts

Hi, I hunt out of permanant stand. I built a new stand. Anyway, I haven't had time to build a chair. What do you guys recommend for a chair. I was thinking some kind of swivel chair.

Does anyone have any great ideas, maybe some home made chairs they would like to share? Thanks, Buck

We use office chairs in all of our elavated box blind stands and they've worked perfect for years. It took a while to find enough that didn't make any noise but was worth the search. We carpet the floors too to make sure there's no noise of the chairs rolling or loud thunk sounds if you drop something.

I've gotten several throw-away swivel office chairs from where I work. The ones with the arm rests are nice and the ones with the height adjustment work well to get just right for resting your gun on the window ledge and aiming. I gave a couple of them to a friend and he left them in the covered deer stand over winter. The mice burrowed into the upholstery. Take them in over winter.

I had a kitchen swivel chair that worked for a couple of years. Problem was, when left out in the elements the chair eventually fell of the swivel base. So I took a 12"X12" chunk of green-treated 2X12 and screwed it to the base. Now it works great as a swiveling stool. I just add a few drops of oil to the moving parts every year or two to keep it quiet.

Boat seat on a swivel base. I found mine on the ground next to the recycling dumpster-complete with base and in perfect condition.

We also have an old bar stool in one of our stands. Has arms, back, swivels quietly, and has held up for the last 5 years so far.

This year we have several new stands with no chairs, so I am going to use some tall director's chairs to see how they work.

I must be the odd ball because why do they call it a "stand" if you are going to sit in it? Anyway, I stand 95% of the time because from most of our stands, deer can come from any direction. It's hard to watch all directions and be ready for a quick shot while sitting. Just the way I do it and there is nothing wrong with being comfortable (of course I'm sure there is a lot of sleeping going on in those comfy chairs.

i've thought about putting one of those hanging rope chairs in my stand. no wheels or legs that need a level floor. they would be virtually noise free. they're made to be outside. nothing for mice to nest in. you can twist the chair in any direction.

just need a strong roof to hang the chair from.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
