Ice Fishing Line

This is my first year ice fishing. I'm curious if anyone has suggestions for brand/type of line to put on my rods (panfish and walleye rods). Probably a dumb question for everyone but any insight is appreciated.

I love using braid in the summer and in the right circumstances, braid works well in winter too, but so many times I find myself hole hopping outside that I had to switch over to mono and fluorocarbon due to the braid holding water and freezing up. It's a royal pain in the rear.

i like 4-6lb trilene for my panfish rods

I like Stren ice, 4-6 lb. Great knot strength, little memory. If you like the "Superlines", try Stren Microfuse. What's nice with this is it glows bluish at night underwater.

I use Sufix 3lb. on all my panfish rods. If the fish are biting I don't blame the line I change my presentation.

I hear ya, Nothing worse than not being able to keep the fish off your line!

I use P-line also. I have a couple spooled with fireline crystal. I get mixed results depending on water clarity and to tell you the truth I have so much confidence in the P-line I've started to convert everything to it, summer and winter.

I use 4lb berkley ice for my pannie rod and 6lb for my walleye rod

Gamma and P-Line --- I've used a lot of different lines and as far as I'm concerned these are the best for most ice fishing situations.

Berkley® Trilene® Micro Ice is the only line I use anymore on my reels. Works great, comes in red or clear steel. Tried a few different ones until I decided on this.

Micro Ice, Fireline, Sometimes I will have a mono leader with a tiny swivel connecting them.. Berkley,Stren.. Sometimes no mono..

"Micro Ice" is on all my reels.The only other line Ive used in the last 2 years was their "cold weather" line,and I thought that line was garbage,took it off after two weeks and re-spooled with micro ice.

I have been using good old trilene xl for years on my ice rigs and have no complaints. Usually 2-4 pounds for pan fish and 6 pound test for walleyes.

No, I'm pretty sure P-Line is a fluorocarbon line. You are probably thinking of PowerPro.

Old school…..2-4lb Trilene XL for panfish, and 6-8lb for Walleyes.

I have not had any problems with the Trilene XL ice fishing or open water, and it is reasonably priced.

I ran with Gamma ESP co-polymer line last year. 2 lb. Only problem that I ran into was that it is thin as frog hair, so tying it can be tricky.

I basically tried them all from Trilene to Cajun. I tried Gamma last year in 2 and 4 lb test. By far the most supple and super knot strength than others I have tried. Since then I have spooled all my reels with Gamma copolymer and flourocarbon. I even use the polymer ice lines on my Lake Michigan Perch rigs casting small jigs from shore in the summer. Gamma or P-line for me, 2-4 lbs, both are great for the ice.
