96trigger
To the person that took my trailcam off the private property bordering whitewater wildlife management area in Plainview:The on/off switch on the camera is touchy, sometimes it won't turn on or off. I usually removed the batteries to reset the camera. Its a pain in the but, but it usually works. It goes through batteries like no other, you will only get 2 weeks worth if you are lucky. The trigger speed is prett slow and the flash doesnt reach very far so it helps if you angle the camera down the trail and have a backstop. You know, like I had it pointing down the field drive between the woods and the corn field. I hope you have great luck with it, and thank you for leaving my stand. Neighbor_guy
I dont own a trail cam, not sure that I ever will, but if I were to buy one, it would be the one that emails you the pictures it takes. That way when it did get stolen, and they all seem like they do eventualy, I could send the pictures of the dopes to the CO, sherif, or whoever. It wont help how you are about getting ripped off, but I feel for ya. After all, it was on your property.
CRAZYEYES
Sorry to hear about the trailcam. I had my garage robbed a couple years ago and they got most of my camping gear among other things. Its a sick feeling.
picksbigwagon
I am sorry to hear about that Trigger.......I am heading to the private I usually hunt around Spring Grove this weekend, I am hoping that my deer stands are still there. Last year, the land owner kicked the same guy out of my deer stand 3 times that week.......He is a neighbor to the property and crossed 3 barb wire fences to get to the stand
96trigger
I'm really disappointed in the two weeks worth of pictures I'd have liked to of seen. Oh well, it happens more often than not. I guess there is a first time for everything, and I'll prabably start to spring for those little camera boxes that lock it to the tree. I really bought that camera knowing that the risk of getting it taken would be quite high, they were pretty cheap, but it took good photos when it wanted to. I guess the 15 foot ladder stand would have been too heavy to drag down the bluff.
picksbigwagon
we are looking at getting some game cameras for our school, the Environmental Education team asked me what to look for, and the first thing I said was a lock box........ 96trigger
I started a Whitetail Club at my school, the kids bring in lots of trail cam pics and even some cool video they shot over the summer. I post them in the back of my room on a bulletin board and have started a little HSOforum. I thought about buying a couple for the club, but so many of the kids have them already, I don't need to. So I guess when the kids ask to see my trail cam pics today, it will be a learning lesson and we can talk a little bit about hunter ethics. brassman
I always lock up everything I leave in the woods even though I hunt on private land, I still don't feel right leaviung things unlocked where anyone is able to just walk up to and take, I give them a challenge anyways. 96trigger
I'm buying locks for my tree stands this weekend. If they took the camera, they saw the stand, and they could possibly come back for it.
picksbigwagon
What do you teach 96? Our school has a lot of undeveloped area around it, we have seen deer, turkeys and flying rats, oops I mean geese on the property. I teach Elem. PE so I get to deal with the geese daily, and unfortunately the goose [PoorWordUsage]. I know how I want to handle the geese but there is that zero tolerance thing...... CodyDawg
Hey, does anyone wanna buy a good trail cam? I suddenly have an extra with a balky on/off switch and 2 weeks worth of MONSTER buck picks ......just kidding! I have been very fortunate to not have anything stolen in a long time ...knock on wood. I have always thought about using one of those scribing pencils to put my name/initials on everything I own. I suppose I wont get that done until I get ripped off and really mad though. Luck has a way of evening out in the long run....thus you are due for some good luck .

96trigger
I teach 9th grade Physical Science. The whitetail club occurs during our advisory periods. The kids love it, we look at their trail cam pics, watch videos, basically, we B.S. about deer hunting. In the spring we talk turkeys. We go over deer strategy, management, tips, tricks, etc.... I use info from this site quite often. Its a blast.

walterman
Trigger...when you want a security box go to your local welding shop and see how much he will charge you to make them. Usually he will have better steel and make a much heavier duty box vs. a store brand. If on private property, lag bolt them to the tree! sticknstring
Where was the whitetail club when I was school? That sounds like a blast! Sorry to hear about your camera 96. I've been fortunate so far but I'm sure it'll happen eventually. It's really too bad when you hope your camera is still on the tree while walking to check them. At least they're getting cheaper to replace.
Musky Buck
96trigger, some people make me sick and whoever took it is a sicko.Had my 15 horse envinrude/trolling motor/gas can/and battery box stolen a few years back never to be seen again, they had to cut a lock off the 15. It is hard to believe so many people lack a conscience.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, I might try and fashion my own also. I made it too easy for them to just take the camera. Where I hunt my uncle only owns about 2 yards into the woods in most places, the rest is public, so people often cut across the top, even though its trespassing.
