St. Paul Ice Fishing Show.

This year will be my first time going to the convention.

Are the prices there any cheaper than the gear in the stores?

The reason I ask is I have a list of gear I want for this ice season and I'm wondering if I should hold out for the Ice Show prices or just purchase in the retail stores when they come out. As I'm sure with most of you, money is tight this year.

Thanks!

There are some deals to be had, but I think the best part of the show is having everything under one roof. You can compare prices/brands/features and check out some new things for the year. Not only that, but a lot of product reps to bounce questions off of.

I wouldn’t go there with the expectation of saving a ton of money.

If you add up the gas to get there and back, parking, admission, and beverage or food, it’s tough to come out ahead.

You go more to check stuff out than to get deals. You can find a few deals, but as mentioned above, when you figure in gas, admission and any food/bev, its going to take a heck of a deal to make that up.

The Strikemaster booth is a great place to get deals. From sweatshirts marked way down from the prices on their HSOforum, to tshirts, auger extensions, etc. I got a $150 coat there 2 years ago for $50, they had a copyright mishap and were forced to sell all their jackets. Best winter coat I own.

ZAmboni hit it right on the head... Strikemaster has good deals on their stuff at the show, I bought a hoodie ($10 I think) last year. Just nice to show support for a local company. "Hot Rod" and the boys do a great job at SM!

I found it great for getting deals. Last year I bought an ice auger, LCD marcum camera and a Marcum LX5. I compared prices between vendors and bargained. In the end one beat their best price and gave me his best price on what was higher elsewhere. I saved about 200 doing it. I tried to get similar prices both before and after the show with no luck.

You will have to work at it and you will get a great deal. It is like every one has said. I made out on a eskimo with a cover and saved over 200 on the next to last day. The deals will not land on your lap but they are there if you take the time to seek and find. I can not wait to go this year because I already know what I will be searching for.

If you love ice fishing this is a great show to attend. You get to see so many products and talk with pro staff under one roof. We have been a vender at the show for quit a few years now and have always done well and have a great time talking with all of the other die hards.

There is always deals to be had if you do your homework before you purchase. Every year I go and work the Otter booth and check stuff out. I keep saying I dont need anything but always seem to come home with some goodies. Last year it was a new Thorne Brothers deadstick and shimano Sedona 500 reel at a good price.

Stop by the Otter booth and say HI. Im the tall ugly one. wink

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
