The Twins Playoff Push... and your thoughts on team/player awards?

I want to hear some of you opinions and thoughts on a few things Twins related...

First, with the Twins 2 1/2 back with 11 games to go.

When do you think the Twins take over the division lead or will they?

- My guess is Game 3 of the Detroit series and we never look back!

Second, Will Mauer win the MVP?

- I say he deserves it, especially if they get in considering Morneau is out and Mauer missed a whole month of the season and still put up the numbers he has!

Third, Will Gardy get manager of the year?

- Again, if the Twins get in given the amount of injuries and number of positions we've filled with multiple players, and a shaky pitching staff. This guy has found a way to pull them together and make a run at this thing!

Finally, Could Cuddy get comeback player of the year?

- He has put up some great numbers especially late. It would be cool to have the Twins rake in some of these awards!

In the end the just getting into the playoffs would be a major accomplishment! GO TWINS!

Your Thoughts...........

Its going to be decided in Detroit for sure. For some reason I do believe tthe Twins have a great shot at it as they are playing pretty good at this time.

Mauer, he will win the batting title almost for sure. If they make the play-offs, then I would say he has as good or better chance than anyone.

Seems Gardi always finds a way to win with only using their minor league players. Thats as good as it gets.

In regards to Cuddy, he has been very hot since Justin went out with his injury. Without a doubt, the comeback kid of the season.

I would say all of what I have said depends on if the Twins win the division.

The only way Gardy wins manager of the year is if somehow all the voters forget about Ron Washington. Sorry to say, but the Rangers and the Rockies are the stories of the year, and their managers (Tracy and Washington) are going to be managers of the year.

I hope I have to eat crow from previous posts and the Twins win the Div. I would love to see it! And hey just might if they stay hot and don't freeze up with KC.

Mauer should and will win the MVP. Yanks may have the best record, but Jeters stats are nowhere even close to Mauer's.

If Twins win the Div, Gardy gets votes (deservedly), but probably finishes 2nd.

It's nice to see Cuddyer come back from the injury plagued 08 and repeat 06 and 07 stats. Not sure about comeback player of the year. I don't know who else has done what.

Twins third-base coach Scott Ullger is among finalists suggested by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution to

succeed Bobby Cox if he were to leave as manager. The paper rates the Twins' Ron Gardenhire as the top manager in baseball

I still think Detroit will win it fairly easily. All they need is a 2 game win streak along with us losing a couple in a row and it's over. Also we play the Royals who do this every year of late they get buried in the division and play great ball down the strech and always bum out a team in contention. We have to face Greinke and he is un-hittable at this time!

#2

I hope so it's either him or Jeter!

#3

Gardy will get some votes and is deserving but the team doesn't have enough wins IMO and if we don't pull off the division there is no chance!

#4

I don't believe he can win an award he doesn't qualify for!

Good thread!

don't think they are going to pull it off. too many away games and tigers have fairly easy remaining schedule.

mauer is mvp and cuddy is comeback winner no doubt about it.

doubt gardy will get much if any consideration for mgr.award lots of injuries but overall the team has not performed up to expectations and barely have a winning record in a weak division.

PB is now a Negative Nancy. frown

Obviously I hope the Twins can do it, but it is going to be tough. Either way, at least they are keeping it exciting by still being in it. A month ago I pretty much lost all hope and thought there was no way. They definitely are playing better, especially pitching wise.

I think the Twins will fall just short.... If we can get it to 2 going into the Tigers series we have a shot... I don't think there is a chance to win all 4 so 3/4 is gonna have to do.... leaving us a game back with a series to go... anything can happen I guess... I hope I'm wrong.

Mauer should be the runaway MVP... if he was having this season on the Yankees or Sox and they were chasing within 3 of a playoff spot, it would already be decided. I think he'll win it. Way to good a numbers at a most important defensive position

Gardy won't win manager of the year.... the biggest reason being how dissappointing the division has been...

Cuddy.... not the comeback player of the year. A really good season, but not comeback player of the year.

Not a negative Nelly. It could happen. It's just a basic math thing. When you're down 3 games in the loss column with 10 to go it's almost impossible to come back and win but it is baseball and anything can a will happen. Not sure if you guys are following Grenikes run for the Cy Young or not be we may have to face him twice along with 4 on the road at Detroit...Go Twins!

I guess if being injured and missing 80 games is the criteria for comeback player of the year so be it Cuddy may win it then.

I always thought it was based on bad play by a player for a season and not on injury.

Glad I checked into it and now realize Cuddy, last years injury plagued season aside, had 2 fantastic seasons before last years to go with this seasons MONSTER/CLUTCH season.

So really there is no need for this thread he is and has earned every penny he's put into the bank and donated to charities!

Nice post PierBridge. Very good points about Cuddy. All we have to do is keep playing and pitching the away we have lately. Detroit will falter a little bit and thats all we shall need.

HMMMMMM wonder where Windy went off to. It must be in mourning.

He posted in the Cass Lake thread, so he is around, just really quiet. shockedshocked

Now that the Chi Sox are officially out of the race I can cheer for them ALL WEEKEND and ALL NEXT WEEKEND!!!! GO WHITE SOX!!! They are really playing like [PoorWordUsage] though hope they can win at least 1 but its going to take another good weekend for the Twins against the Royals who are playing really well right now!

If we can be no worse than 3 back going into Detroit we'll have a shot even if it isn't a great one.

Anyone getting the feeling its going to come down to that final weekend yet again?

I tell you what,, I wrote the Twins off 2 weeks ago. Shame on me. They are RIGHT in the mix. The thing about DET is that last night the Sox won with a HR from Beckham after a error on INge. 2-0. Game Over. I think the SOx's got 2 hits in the game agst Bonine, and still won.,, that's got to take it's toll.

I think the SOX sweep the Tigers and the Twins come into Mo-town at the worst 1 GB.

Where is all the national attention?? ESPN does like nothing on this. If the Twins win the CENtral(and nothing agst them) it's got to be one of the biggest chokes and weakest DIV champs in recent memory. The CArds of 06 were similair and won the Series. The key is-- GET IN and give yourself a chance.

For those that wonder,, we can hit CC if we get to NY.

Look at the Twins #'s agst CC sometime.-- and all it takes is ONE win in NY and the home field advatage goes to the TWins.

It's a weird feeling, but I think the Twins will play a tiebreaker agst the Tigers at the Dome.
