bassislife
I have a couple Lowrance 522 and the hand held Expetition. The factory default has the map ( North up). That is the only way have been using it in the past, but there are a few more options to try.(Tracking Up) and ( course up).Any one care to comment on some of these optional settings? Do you favor one over the other?I walked around today with the hand held, but didn't get a chance to try it in the boat this year.. and its already stored. DTro
Just personal preference I guess, but I prefer to have it (Tracking Up) when on the water, and (North Up) when on land. It's weird I guess, but that is my preference. Especially on an unfamiliar body of water.
wplatehunter
Mine has always been on (up north) it seems to work fine.

LMITOUT
North up for me.
ripstick
All mine are tracking up. that way when looking at them as in wehicle I dont have to pay that close of attention. Same with my combo and handheld.
B-man715
I personally can't stand anything but north up. I laugh at my buddies when they turn a paper map upside down
PerchJerker
North Up for me too. I've tried Track Up and it's great ..... unless you're contour trolling with a high definition map card --- then the contour lines and everything else jump around every time you change direction and it gets very annoying watching the screen. leech~~
I never change it in the boat, but have when trying to find a location in the car I have never been to, like someones cabin or house and don't want to miss the right road. I like the map to be the same direction i'm heading.
Deitz Dittrich
North up for me to.. for the same reason PJ said.
JeffB
I am about 50/50 track up/ N up seems each has its place for me. If I am following a contour line or making longer passes I like track up.

riverrat56
I like north up when I have my bearings pretty well and know which way north is at all times. Otherwise I like track up, that way I can orientate to the map and surrondings better
McGurk
Track-up for me when I am moving, but North-up when stationary. With Track up, I can see more of the GPS map while moving. I have a larger field of view ahead of me (almost 2 inches) than to the sides of me (about 1/2 an inch) due to my placement on the screen. When traveling East or West, I don't know what's coming up unless I zoom way out when using North up, but Track up fixes that.
bassislife
Makes sense to track up when traveling across open water and track north on the handheld while on land. With the hand held, you are able to turn it north like holding a compass.. hard to do that while in the boat.
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
Tracking up for me. Why would you want to see yourself going another direction then your heading?
BobT
Tracking up for me. Why would you want to see yourself going another direction then your heading? My GPS doesn't have an electronic compass so when I am standing still, the GPS doesn't know which way it is oriented. The pointer on my screen only shows my direction when I'm moving. By using north up while walking and recording a track, I can easilly see which way I have been moving even when I stop to look at the screen. If I'm on the move in a car or boat, I like to use Track up so it shows my direction relative to the map data.
