What will happen whan Mauer comes back?

84 posts in this topic

I say keep Morales and let Redmond go. Maybe send morales down until Mauer proves hes healthy enough to be the everyday catcher.

Or even send Gomez down and keep Morales on as a DH.

I don't see Redmond going anywhere. I would think Morales would be sent down to keep him sharp and in game shape.

I thought for sure you were going to start you're annual move Mauer to 3rd, Outfield, DH campaign when I first read the thread topic!.... smile

Hey, the kid (Morales) picked off a guy at 2nd today. First one of the year by a twins catcher.

That being said, neither Reddog or Morales is an everyday guy. I would figure Morales goes down to AAA to stay in game shape and Redmond takes his place on the bench catching a couple specific pitchers and daygame after nightgame situations.

Having reddog bat is like having a pitcher bat... that being said, wow, his avg is higher than Crede's and Cuddy's.

what will happen? i'm going with they will put him back on the dl or cuddles goes on it. they both cant be healthy at the same time can they. i cant believe cuddles hasnt broke a nail yet for he sure hasnt broke a sweat yet. 3 pitches and back to the dugout is getting old.

They would be fools to keep Redmond over Morales. But then again, they are the Twins...

Remember...Redmond is also a 2nd coach. His experience and clubhouse work is worth keeping him at least for this year. Morales will get his turn.

Geez guys, nothing like jumping on the bandwagon the second it gets out of the garage! Morales has what, 40 major league at bats? Maybe, just maybe, we should just settle down and see how he progresses over the course of the season at AAA. Maybe Reddog or Mauer get hurt again. But to cut Reddog for a guy with 40 big league at bats is crazy.

Send Morales down and keep Redmond. Like it was said earlier he is like a coach and has the experience to come thru in the clutch and is durable. Look at next season for Morales to stay. He can work on his game in AAA and get call ups when needed during the season. Redmond may be expendable next season to save money.

If Twins want to keep three cathers to be on the safe side, then I say send Gomez down to AAA. He is not helping at this point and is having all kinds of issues in the field and at the plate. He needs to mature more in AAA. It helped Span/Casilla last season.

Morales is hitting good right now but according to the Twins radio I think Jack Morris stated that Morales barely beat out Butara in spring training for the roster spot......Redmond has always been a good bat for the twins and I am sure is an asset with our pitching staff. Send Morales down when Mauer gets back.....

Keep Redmond, send Morales down. I agree, releasing or sending Redmond down shouldn't happen, send Morales down and figure Mauer will probably get hurt again, or if Redmond is struggling and Moralas is having good at bats in AAA, then re-evauluate at that time.

What???? Guy is the best hitter in the AL and he still gets ripped on by Twins "fans"?

No ripping, just a lot of hitting into DP's lately. But you have to admit, he does hit into his fair share and then some.

On April 23rd Morales was batting .250. By going 6 for 8 over two games he raised his average to .375. Two games does not make a career so I wouldn't too exited. The kid has some potential but Mauer and Redmond are better with the pitchers right now and frankly our pitchers could use some help. Let Morales go back to AAA and get at-bats every day. He would get very little playing time in majors when Mauer is back up AND healthy.

He will be a great option in 2010.

agree that Morales needs to go down once Mauer is healthy. He's doing decent batting but the D can always use some work and sitting on the bench isn't going to be of any value for Morales' development.

The same could be said for Gomez. He may as well go down and get work on his batting by playing every day and facing live pitching on a regular basis. I don't think that neither him nor Delmon are gaining much by sitting on the bench so may as well send one of them down so that both of them can get full time playing time.

    •   StephenRamon, Welcome to the forum. Which did you think was Great? Putting the screws in boots or ATV tires?
    • I was fortunate to see a tanager, blue-winged warbler, and a couple of young cranes all in one morning  on a walk in a park this week.
    •   You will get plenty of recipes for a brine or injection, or even an injectable brine which work good for turkey breasts.  A common injection are the store bought ones you see in sporting goods stores in the cooking section. All kinds of flavors from Cajun, to Honey Butter, Garlic & Herbs, etc. Some even come with a free syringe.  Some simple injections you can make are apple juice (plain or jazzed up), beer with seasonings, a doctored up chicken broth and one of my favorites a Lite Apple Brine.  Since it's injected I like lower salt than you would use for an immersion brine.  My Lite Apple Brine's ratio is 1 gram of canning salt mixed into 1 ounce of apple juice.  If you buy an 8oz bottle of apple juice, just add 8 grams of canning salt, shake it and you are ready to inject.     Years ago I asked Old Dave, an online friend, for help on an injection for a pastramied turkey breast recipe I was developing.  He sent me a modified version of Shakes Injectable Brine, which is fancier than my Lite Apple Brine.... and guess what, I really like it too.  Here is the recipe... and if you want to read more, I'll have the link to my write-up below.  BTW, I was skeptical of the cloves, but I tried the first one following the recipe and it's good.  My only variation is I'll use agave nectar instead of the honey sometimes.    Old Dave's Poultry Injectable Brine, based off of "Shakes" Injectable Brine.
32oz clean water (non-chlorinated and not softened)
      1/4 cup pickling salt
      2 teaspoons of TenderQuick
      1/3 cup clover honey
      3-4 bay leaves
      1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
      1/2 teaspoon pickle spice

Heat it up in a sauce pan but do not boil. For a 12-15 pound turkey, inject 2 oz in each leg, 2 oz in each thigh, and 4 oz in each side of the breast. 16 oz total per turkey. I like to do the injection at least 8-10 hours before the fire.   My Pastramied Turkey Breast write-up can be found HERE   EDIT, you smoke them until the internal is 165° to 170°.  An injection will help keep them moist even at the 170° temp.  I like a mix of cherry and hickory, but keep the amount gentle.  Apple would be a safe bet for your first one and you can always use a stronger wood next time.
    • First off, the comment I made which you replied to with a hypothesis never stated that there was proof they did anything wrong. I merely and accurately stated that there was a chance they did some of the same things and it appears that may be the case.   You said plainly that VW could have chosen the Daimler tech but chose not to. In the end doing so may very well have found them in the same boat.
    • Haula is probably going to see a lot of playing time so I don't doubt he will have some nice years, kind of like how Brodziak scored 20 playing as our first line center. I like Schroeder as first call up or emergency player but he just can't consistently bring it in the NHL, that is no crime because when he gets hot he is fun to watch but he just can't stay there.
    • That's some good info, Thanks.
    •   I think they're shut down, too.  Smells like no money and more welfare...
    •   Not sure if their still producing cardboard up at that plant anymore?
