HuntBigFish
Masterbraid all the way for me. Like people have already said, it doesn't hold on to as much water on the retrieve, which is very nice. And compared to Power Pro, this stuff frays about half as much. Power pro frays way too much for throwing the big stuff. The new spiderwire stealth is nice and smooth for casting, but it does retain a fair amount of water when casting.
NCLaker
I have been using the Spiderwire Stealth for several years now and never had the problems mentioned here about turning things green. I use both 50 lb and 80 lb on my set-ups. I also use some 8 lb, 20 lb and 30 lb on some of my non-muskie gear. NOW, I once tried using the Spiderwire Ultracast in green once. THAT started to turn everything green. The Stealth doesn't do that though.... at least I never seen it happen. I also never really had the splitting issue mentioned here...My setup was spooled up by the retailer, thought it was Stealth - it is possible they put on the Ultracast instead of Stealth. Thanks for point this out.
b1gf1sh1
alright i'm completely confused... stealth has the teflon coating am i right? and ultra-cast is the soft and supple stuff with what looks like nothing but cotton really? whatever, thats how i remember it. the teflon kept the line from soaking up water and was easier on guides. well as long as it didn't wear off. the ultra cast lasted about a day and a half and i couldnt take it anymore. i'd cast and be wet from head to toe. had to go. power pro, power ''NO''. whats that red braid? i just looked at one of my 400's and i havbe red on it. i put it on at the end of the year last year and it worked great. all i remember was it was 7 bucks and it's red. it's alot like super braid, just cheaper. i can't seem to find the left over filler spool. steffanf
The stuff that looks like "cotton" (smooth and white) is the Spiderwire Ultra-Cast Invisibraid. They also make the Ultra-Cast in green. This green-colored Ultracast is the stuff that has the coating on it that keeps coming off and turning everything green. The white-colored Invisibraid doesn't seem to leave any residue, perhaps because the coating is clear- I don't know for sure, but is a little too "visible" to me (go figure). I think the Stealth has some kind of teflon coating on it as well, but it seems to stay on the line and doesn't start turning everything green. I know that Spiderwire used to make just their "Original Braid". This was the first braid I started using years ago and it did NOT have any teflon coating on it at all. I am not sure if it is still made anymore. This stuff used to absorb alot of water. The Stealth still absorbs some water as well, just not as much. The spraying is not much of a factor for me since I use spinning gear, which minimizes any spraying on the retrieve. On my 400TE, I do use the Masterbraid because of the aforementioned spraying. It is a little larger in diameter than comparable Stealth, which is why I keep the Stealth on my spinning gear.
Cast A Way
I also use Cortland Spectron exclusively for Muskies and bass. Never had any problems. Cast A Way
porterhouse
I use 80# Cortland Masterbraid with no problems. I had issues with power pro in the past. I was a big fan of whiplash!!!Brian

BuckKiller
i use either 80# power pro or 80# tuff line... both are good in my book
RuKiddingMe
Been running PowerPro for years and have had no problems, tried the Tuf and all it did was wet my hands down. This year I want to replace all the line on all my reels I just found a pretty sweet deal on Stren Super Braid picked up 4 - 300YRD spools for 65 bones on the world famous auction site. There is still more out there.RU
jsondag
Anyone run Sufix 80# braid?? Like or dislike? I used the Sufix in many # tests. It was an awesome line - Rapala now owns it, and I heard it is going to undergo some changes. You can still get the good stuff though! I had rods with 65, 80, 100# on them. No complaints. Last year I started using Spiderwire Stealth - Some of the best line out there! Not a fan of Power Pro - Looking forward to trying some of the new Fireline, and like the Tuff line XP and Courtland Bronzeback. I would pick the stealth over all though! Nothing under 65#
propster
Reeds had Stren Super Braid on sale at the expo. 80 lb, 125 yd, 2 spools for 10 clams with a $6 rebate - 2 for $4. Haven't used it before but ought to be at least good enough for the backup reels. Also got some Fireline Braid and Ultracast from my buddy before he left Pure Fishing. Anybody have the skinny on these lines?
PostFrontal
Before PowerPro all I used was Fireline, but they hadn't changed it to keep up with the new round lines.I used to be a Power Pro guy but with the high speed reels it will rip up your thumb and we had problems with it snapping the 80# line with heavier baits last year. Would probably still be good for trolling.Tuf for highspeed reels like Trinadad and Saltist for sure. Stren for sure on everything else. I had the same line on 1 reel that I used all the time all year with no problem.
Esox_Magnum
I use Ultra Cast Invisibraid, so far its been a good line. I normaly run Power Pro but can't beat the price on the Invisibraid.
propster
PF, the new Fireline Braid is a round braid. Esox, the stuff I got was Ultra Cast Ultimate Braid. Know anything about that?
Esox_Magnum
Nope don't know nothing about that, I'll look at it next time I'm in FFO.
pauljpollock
I started out with 36 lb. Cortland Musky Master... It was fine back then, but I switched to 80 lb. Tuf Line when it came out, and I used it for several years. I never had any problems with it other than the fact it retains water and made for some cold hands in the fall! I switched to 80 pound Power Pro and it's all I've used since. I've never had a break off trolling or casting...One tip though...Don't wear a white tee shirt if you're using newly spooled phantom red! Paul. PostFrontal
Prop-right. Haven't used the new Fireline since they changed it because I already liked the Stren and Tuf.
Musky Buck
Musky18 old post but yes the tufline and water retention, forgot about that and how fairly quickly the actual used/casted out line fades or can fade fairly quickly turning a turqoise color. MUSKY18
Just got my new Spiderwire Stealth Camo in the mail today. Got two reels spooled up with it already and really like the looks of the line. Going to get the rest on some more reels tomorrow, now just need the ice to get off the lakes so I can go out and try out some new lures!!! no_bod
Hey guys, as an add on of this question, how much mono backing do you put on your reels? What lb. test? Thanks!
DHanson
Kinda depends on the size of your spool. If you have a monster spool you could do 35%-50% of the spool with backing. Smaller spool, maybe a 1/4 full on spool. I use 20 lb. mono berkley trilene. You can really use any size mono though, whatever you have laying around.
