Early season crows opened on the first of March and runs till the end of the month. Anyone out shooting?

Giving consideration to givving it a run this weekend. I think it has been about 7 years since I did any crow hunting, other than the occational bird in the yard shots whistle . Seeing all the birds flying around with all the snowmelt and warm weather has me itching.....

a buddy of mine is heading to his land tonight to hunt crows tomorrow. He bought a couple of new decoys and man do i wish I was up there with him.....We were talking last night and we joked that maybe stopping at Mc Donalds and getting some extra french fry's and cheese burger wrappers would help bring the crows in.........If you get out, blast a couple for me Neighbor guy

LOL.. I love it.. thats the biggest G-darn loophole in the law.

CROWS are ALWAYS about to do damage! Thats all they do!!

Grab the shoties and fling some ammo in the sky.

My favorite method was tossing a dead bird down beneath a large dead white pine tree, the birds just flock to the tree and land, ping goes the .22, the birds fly around, land again.. ping goes the .22 ..hehe grin

that can go on for almost ever cool

No you can not eat crow!!!!!!!!!!! They have parasites that can make you so ill that you will be in the hospital. Oh yes to Carlos avery. Ya I was a cheap bast*rd and still am when it comes to decoys. Why buy expensive ones when you can make your own for cheap. Even for yotes I will use a stuffed animal from the house and put the call box next to it easy and it works.

My favorite method is to get into a second or third cut stand of pines. For some reason I find the thinned out mature trees to be the best, especialy if they have some self seeded trees you can hide in. Then owl and crow distress calls.

Most times they will send in a scentry, he will finish the calling for you, then they will come busting in under the canopy. It can be great fun, fast and furious.

I believe this after my walk tonight. The spot you were thinking of had plenty of crows on it.

I have done a lot of crow huning in the last few years...it is a blast....if you are really into it you should check out Crowbusters.com. They have a lot of info on their site about crow hunting.

The few times I've done it once you shoot a few rounds they all book out and you have a heck of a time getting them to come back. Some of them seemed to be awfully tough - the pellets seemed to not have any effect at all. Sort of made me think that sniping them from a distance or using sub-sonic 22 rounds was a way to go but I haven't tried that.

Tom, we've nailed em lotta times with 22-250's from a distance. They blow up and black feathers float around like a busted open pillow. If others are around they don't hang there long either. It's as if they think, whatever blew up that guy is gonna get us too.

I like to treat crows like I would anyother Varmit/preditor calling. 20-30min per set, get on a few birds, then switch locations a mile mabe more, make a new set. You can return to a past spot after an hour or two or the next day, and repeat.

Now most of my hunting was/is done in farm country, and the plantation pine method works well for me. Like Big A said however, if you can find a field situation and are patient you can shoot singles all day, just by leaving the others lay as "decoys". I am not that patient and tend to move around, I give a spot a half hour to an hour and move on.

Shells and shot are key too. 3" BB's or 2's are the only thing I have ever "droped" em with. They are a hard bird to kill, and I have seen them "survive" a .22 round, as well as take full hit of #6 shot at such a close distance the wad hit the bird and it still flew away.

i shoot the crows in my backyard with the good old pellet gun. granted not all of them go down but i would say it is close to 50%. a lady 2 doors up puts out old bread so all winter long there are hundreds of them in the woods behind the house. find chunks of bread and trash everywhere and the noise is unreal, especially after i put 1 or 2 down.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
