Well lucky crafts are out of my budget but I agree with you on the Fat rap. I also like the DT series. Also at the right times I use Rat-L-Traps out deep ripping it through weeds in 15 to 20 ft

I cant pick just one.. and will not, as weather changes I can predict which they will prefer. As wide wobble or tight changes every thing.. and so does floating or suspending..

But I will tell you my top few fave deep divers..

Poes 300 and 400's and 400+

Rapala DT 10's and 16'..

Fat Free Shads

Bandit 300's and 400's

Bagley Dredge

Hiya -

I rely on a fairly small collection that oddly enough loks a lot like Deitz's:

Poes 300s and 400s

DT-10s, 14s and 16s

Fat Raps - the old Balsa ones

Strike King Series 5s and Series 6s (I'm really getting to like these)

Norman DD-22s

Fat Free Shads

Bomber 6-As

LOTWSvirgin - farther down the board there's a long discussion of crankbait rods with a ton of good info on who uses what, and why.

cheers,

Rob Kimm

I'm hoping to throw the DT20 a lot this year. As of right now it would be the DD Fat Rap and the DD22.

Don't even get me started as to what rod I will throw these bigger cranks with.

I am kind of a fan, but not a fan of throwing crankbaits. I like throwing them, because I can concentrate on boat control in the wind a little better than trying to fish an 1/8oz. jigworm in a 20 mph wind. I hate them because I have a messed up left wing (tendinitis), and it's painful. My favorite deep cranks are absolutely the most painful:

Bomber Fat Free Shad

(old) Bagley DB2s

(old) Rapala Down Deep Fat Raps

Cecil, I take it you haven't found that perfect deep crank rod yet... Keep looking man.

I like to throw the old school poes 300 and 400 series as well. The Big Risto raps are another favorite of mine, along with a couple that I make myself that are flat sided. I have gotten them to hit 17-18' on a l..o..n..g cast. Trolling I have banged bottom in over 20' with my homemade baits. It's nice to have a bait that noone else has... =)

I kinda gave them up last year - only made abotu 15 casts all year with cranks. I may add them to the arsenal this summer but I have moved to plastics mainly due to more enjoyable to fish (in my opinion) and I seem to do a little better on them.

I may throw a few DT this year but that is about all...and really only use them in the heat of summer down rocky faces.

triton,

Now that is the ideal situation. Someone else control the boat, and I just fish. If I would ever just give in and buy a glass boat, I would probably like the wind even more. I'd probably be rooting for a 25 mph winds instead of 15 to 20.

I kind of rediscovered crank baits last year. I never really put them away, but I started taking them more serious. I have always thought of them as "find the fish bait," but now I treat them as an extractor. Much the same way as I would treat a jigworm.

fire tiger, hot mustard, and crawdad. I believe its whatever you have confidence in though. I have caught plenty of fish on all water clarity with natural baitfish patterns. My favorite color is the rapala sunfish color, it looks just like a little bluegill. But then again, you never have to choose just one, so I try and keep an open mind smile

Ray-

I'm down on Sam Rayburn and it was 20mph winds today and trust me, even in a glass boat it was bad! I need one of those china gals to walk on my back. Sorry for the highjack.

For me its the DT series. Just pounded the bass on DT 16s last year. My usual standby, the #9 Shad Rap, was just not producing in August up by Leech Lake. Tried every other deep crank but the DT16 outproduced by at least 4:1

I agree with you on Strike Kings Series 5, I have used SK Shallow running crankbaits since i go into bass fishing but last year i started using more and more of there deep diving bait and they catch fish. Ripping them threw the grass is deadly :), There Red Eye shad is a great bait as well.

As far are Lucky Craft goes the only LC i have used is the RC 1.5 Crankbait. Great bait but a nice price tag on it as well. LC Pointers are great topwater baits.
