Which Camera.. Color vs Black & White.. Brand ?

Big A

Recommended Posts

Ladies and Gents,

yesterday was my first ever experience fishing with a buddy who had an old Marcum Black&White camera.

IT WAS AWESOME !

I had so much fun watching the fish on the screen and we easily caught 30 fish just off watching them bite.

I am now officially in the market for an underwater camera.

Looking for thoughts, ideas, questions, comments, or concerns in regards to what you may use or have experienced?

Thanks for the help!

I also am looking into a camera.

The concern I have is stained water.

I fish a river system that is pretty well stained and the experience I have had was not to good with a camera. The camera I used, by Aqua views own admission to me, was not a good color camera. But I have faith the tech has improved since then.

I fish the same waters as EM and actually get more use out of my Marcum VS380 camera than I do out of my LX5. If your just looking to get into the camera game the 380 is an excellent choice. It has very good clarity and the 7" screen is a very nice feature if your going to be using it to watch the fish bite.

It's gonna be pretty hard to see on the Croix Curt. I've tried mine and don't see much.

Stained water might be difficult, especially on the Croix. As for Color or B&W...unless your fishing some very very clear waters I don't see the color as that big of an advantage. I have a MarCum VS380 and I love the definition and clarity of the unit. The controls are all on the front so I can easily adjust my image settings for optimal image quality. Good luck!

I strongly suggest you look at the cabelas brand of cameras. I have the 7 in model and it is awesome. They are way cheaper than other brands, and I have looked at it against an aqua view side by side in the water and the cabelas blew it away. The camera has a larger angle so your field of view is larger, and it was also much clearer than my buddys aqua view. He is getting rid of his aqua view and already bought a cabelas camera.

i dont agree with oly and bavincent, for the simple fact that i was at cabelas and a guy was returning his cam and we ask y and he said cuz the charging cable started his house on fire and the display model had about 500 hrs on it and the cam went out. Every rep at cabelas suggested the Aqua Vu even over their own product. Also the guy returning it said that it was already his 4 cabelas cam, 2 DOA, 1 cam was messed up and 1 started his house on fire. <-- not ice house REAL house

I just bought the Cabela's 5.5" advanced underwater camera, I love it, the picture is crisp n clear and I can see quite a ways away, its B&W and I wouldnt trade it for the world and I paid 90.93 after tax brand new at the cabela's store in owatonna for it! When I bought it it had a 4.1 out of 5 review on it after 136 reviews, I love the carrying case its small n portable and everything is really rapped up and durable, just put Reel Weeds on it too and for the money ya cant beat a cabela's brand.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
