two cycle oil

teamfish

Question

My ice auger takes 24:1 oil and when I went to get some at the store none of the oils had a pre-mix for 24:1. I found one called tall timber that mixes with one gallon of gas and is good for all mixtures. Have not seen or heard of this. Does anyone use this or know anything about tall timber. The clerk at the store says it has been around for a few years with no complaints.

If you google it you will find a table for mixing it and you can use whatever kind of oil you want. I'd post a link but you know don't want anyone to get in a twist. Here try this

16:1 24:1 32:1 40:1 50:1

US Gal US ounces of oil

1 8.0 5.5 4.0 3.2 2.5

2 16.0 10.5 8.0 6.5 5.0

3 24.0 16.0 12.0 9.5 7.5

4 32.0 21.5 16.0 13.0 10.0

5 40.0 26.5 20.0 16.0 13.0

I've not heard of tall timber, so can't help you there. My 2S snowblower calls for a 50:1 oil pre-mix. The farm named Fleet has something where you add one packet to one gallon of gas to hit 50:1. You could add two packets to one gal and get 25:1 or one packet to 1/2 gall.

Go Amsoil or Opti max pouches and little bottles. Mix 1 with a gallon of gas doesn't matter what the ratio is it has a stabilizer added so you don't have to worry about the off season. Just make sure you run the tank empty before going with this mixture. Works good with the weed eater and other summer equipment 1 gas for all mixed engines.

strikemaster and jiffy both make oil that will mix 24:1. After a couple of months my strikemaster started spitting out a black goo from the exhaust. The guy at SM said only use the 24:1 for break-in period. after that go to 50:1. started using Amzoil works great and the auger runs better.

If you read the auger manual, it will say that for winter/ice use, to mix 40:1. That's why strikemaster sells the 40:1 bottle mixtures. I was confused as to why all strikemaster augers said 24:1, yet they only sold bottles of 40:1 mixture.

But.....I've been using amsoil saber packets and it is by far the best out there. It comes in a packet measured for 1 gallon of gas, which results in a 100:1 mixture. I usually put in 9/10 of a gallon to run it a little rich, but seems to work great! Been running it for 3 years now and have had no problems.

opsirc,

Is that the 3hp? My brother just bought a Strikemaster 2 hp Mag 2000, and it said for winter use to mix 40:1. On the engine it does say 24:1. I don't want to give the wrong advice and have this guy fry his engine by me recommmending too lean of mixture.

I run the 100:1 Amsoil in all the two cycle equipment.

We cut 100 full cord of wood per winter, using (2) chainsaws, and cut over 300 acres of grass (schools with fencing) with trimmers in the summer, all summer long.

I used to run the 100:1 at 100 to 1, but we would fry trimmers after 1 year. Again, remember this is running trimmers wide open, 5-8 hours per day, 5 days per week.

If you talk to other guys on lawn mowing boards, you'll find most get the best results at 80:1.

You also don't get the black goo, or exhause port plugging at 80:1.
