Meals for in the fishouse

Guy's,

I saw this in another post. What are some easy meals for in the fishouse. Wanderer mentioned Vacume sealing meals. let's hear some simple recipies that can be made in a pot of boiling water besides just Polish sausage or hot dogs.

I do love the Polish sausage though blush I cooked up some jumbalia with cajun sausage then sealed it up in the bags for a Boy Scout weekend last weekend. I loved the clean up.

Thanks for the help

Steve

omlette's, crack eggs into a ziploc bag along with what ever else you would like in your omlette. squish it all together to mix. Then just drop the bag into a pot with boiling water. And cook until no longer runny.

Last year I started a bringing a tote with food just for day trips. (For the back of the truck or in the portable.) I have a small one burner coleman stove, pan, spatula, and plastic-ware.

It is stocked with ramen noodles in the cup, oatmeal packs, swiss-miss packets, easy mac, and bottles of water. It stays in the truck or shack all the time. When I need water I just cut the bottles apart and melt the ice. This set-up can hold a guy over for a full day on the ice. No more leaving the lake for the nearest gas station. And if I plan ahead, my favorite thing is sloppy joes in the portable smile Just had some today!

MRE= Meals Refuse to Exit

Or, Meals Rejected by the Enemy. grin

Sorgy,

Just about anything you eat at home can be vacuum packed and reheated in a pot of boiling water. It's sweet.

I used to give my buddy a hard time for doing it mostly because because I envied his planning. Now that I've tried it myself, heating up a can of soup to have with a frozen roast beef sandwich just isn't as appetizing.

I vacuum pack because those bags will hold everything together such as ham, egg and cheese on a bagel or english muffin and not melt in the pot. A ziploc can't do the same.

I can throw my meals in my portable for the weekend and not have to worry about the food spoiling or freezing since I'll boil it later. Just pack in individual portions and choose what you want.

Sometimes you need to boil longer than you think though to get all the cold spots out.

I'll be trying the omelette idea too.

was at menards this weekend and SHORELUNCH makes a bad of several different kinds of soup that you just add 2 cups of water to and boil. $2.50 Chilli, chicken wild rice, chicken noodle, Brocoli-cheese, creamy cheddar, etc.. And tasty! Hope it sticks around as a GOOD IDEA!!!!!!!! Other wise i have also done the omlet in a bag thing and works good. I also bought an outdoor grill at menards for 16.99. I hook into a 20# (same hose as MR Buddy) for gas supply. I grill out on most weekends. Sky is the limit on how far you want to go...

I will give a big thumbs up to the Shore Lunch soup!!!! It is great, chicken noodle or wild rice with diced cooked chicken added yummo. We took ground venison, cooked it up, added to the chili mix along with an extra can of diced tomatos, three extra cans of kidney beans, and a can of corn, turned out great and made a very big batch.

if you have a mr heater/ cooker; pot and pan/skillet (you may want silverware, not plastic ware, many others have been used in place of)...you can eat like a king. #1 lunch/ dinner in portable is cambells or progresso POP TOP lid soup. pop the lid, set cooker on low stir occasionally eat at your desired temp. (leather glove helps) breakfast... oatmeal and brown sugar. and if you really want a meal to make everyone happy... grab some canned vegies, what ever meat you may have handy, (sausage, steak, what ever; seasonall/salt and pepper great to have) then some instant potatoes or my favorite stove top stuffing. Have also had stove top just as a meal it self w/ some shredded chicken, pheasant or grouse. But you always need to fry some fish w/ shore lunch potatoes and some baked beans. I think its almost time for lunch here.

I keep a charcoal grill and a camp stove up at my fish house... So it's no different than any other time I go camping.

When it comes to just say cooking on the heater. (I have a wood stove.)

... During the fall, I cook soups and stews on Sunday for football... Then I freeze the left overs, and bring one each weekend up to the fish house.

Also, I'll bring a cheap can of ravioli up, and just set it on the stove, stirring occasionally.

But more often than not... It's chicken wings or steak off the grill for "Supper."

I also have done the omelette in a bag meal. You can bring a box of bags and put onions, green peppers, mushrooms, ham, shredded cheese or whatever in a few of them and reserve an empty one for each person and let them make their own omelette putting whatever or as much ingredients as they want. I also break the eggs at home into a clean plastic peanut butter jar. Then you can pour out one egg at a time or shake them all up and divide evenly.

If you are using a small grill get a stuffed pork chop or small steak from the store, two squares of aluminum foil, a slice of onion, slice of lemon, salt and pepper and wrap up in the doubled aluminum foil. Place on the grill until done. A chicken breast can even be cooked in it's own "pouch" of foil with carrots and potatoes.

My all time fav? canned venison warmed in a pot on the stove, finger food!

I've had the Shorelunch Wild Rice soup. Surprisingly good. Cost $2.50, but took "8 cups" of water. Made a good amount of food.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
