I have owned or extensively used the the strikelite, lazer mag, and the mag 2000. Just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt if u like. After using the strikemasters for 12 plus years i have no doubt in my mind I will never own anything but a nils ever again. Just my opinion take it for what u want. If u would like to try out the worlds best ice auger let me know. Bring with your strikemasters for comparison also.

Yes, I know it is a nice auger and I said it in my first post. However, you can buy a strikemaster for much cheaper than you buy a nilsy for. Honestly, I could care less that you can beat me by a second in drilling a hole. Strikemasters service and price + the product they make, makes them the best IMO.

A Nils is no different than any other auger in the fact you can get them worked on at any Tanaka Authorized shop. Its a auger motor guys not a swiss watch.

Lets keep the posts on topic and not get all heated over who's auger is best.

The gentleman has the info now let him chose wich is best for him.

Another plus with the Nils, when/if you ever have questions on whether your purchased the right auger you can come here and have dozens of peoplefill you in about the Nils. smile

Theyre nice augers for sure. But pretty much anything on the market today is a nice auger. It really depends on whether you want/need to have the "best."

Of course it is subjective to what the "best" is. Personally, I tried the Nils and thought it was a bit clumsy. But it is a nice auger.

The specifics on the Nils have been talked about on these forums many many many times. Sounds like your wanting to be convinced as to buying a NIls.

Everything you read on here is true. I have turned several friends onto a Nils after they used mine. In my opinion worth every cent.

Sorry if it sounded like a sales pitch but isnt that really what ya wanted? To be sold on weather to get one or not.

Correct Sir! Just want all angles covered smile

Hey guys, good topic and great talk on this subject as I am in hot persuit of my first power auger purchase. I have been twisting a lazer 7" hand auger for years and we are both worn out. I am currently figuring on a Strikemaster Lazer but upon hearing talk here of these things maybe being manufactured in China?!? I would definitely choose a Nils if this was the case! The Minnesota based company would be the deciding factor for me, but not so much if they are producing them in China. So whats the verdict on this? Thanks Guys!

Hey Northlander, it sounds as if you want this auger conversation to cease and desist. Some here are very interested in this topic and I suggest you simply read elsewhere if you are not.

The only thing that I have found that really STINKS about the Nils is the BLADE COVER.

If a guy were to design something better, my guess is that he could make a fortune in a matter of 2 hard-water seasons.

Other than that, I am another satisfied customer.

Crappieman might want to watch what you wish for. My buddy thought the same thing. Wasnt even close. Nils all the way! His laser runs and cuts great but after drilling a few holes with the nils he cant wait for something to happen to his so he can buy a nils.

What's the big deal on augers. If it cuts a hole in the ice in a decent amount of time (faster than by hand) than it does its purpose. Its not like the extra 2 seconds is going to make or break catching a fish!

Just like different kind of cars if it gets you from point A to point B it does its purpose. Weather Ford or Chevy it gets work done

I look at it this way if a Nils will last 2 times as long as other augers, its costing you less in the long run to own one. Plus they are a sweet machine, quiet, smooth, fast and light.

How can you justify that a Nils will last twice as long as a Strikemaster when Nils has only been around for 15 years. Strikemaster has been around for 60 years and have been making power augers for over 30 years and I still know guys that have some of the first augers made still in great working condition. If you do the math there 30/15=2 That means as far as we know a STRIKEMASTER will last twice as long as a Nils..

For meits how light it is and howeasy it is to cut with. Makes moving around and drilling more holes easier.

It is a big deal if you start drilling over a 100 holes in a day only to do it all over again the next day and again the next. If you have to work to drill your holes and now with the deep snow lugging around a heavy auger you will end up settling on a spot instead of getting on the perfect spot that is holding fish or the type of structure that you want.

The actual build of a Nils is not comparable to a SM so the Ford vs Chevy will not work. You don't need to know where the nearest repair shop is cause it is built to work every day for years and years.

If SM is so darn good at cutting why don't they offer a handle like Nils so you can use manually ?

My Jiffy is 20 years old and still running good so a Nils would have to last at least 40 years.
