How wide would you say a mature bucks ears are from tip to tip if they where straight out.

I would say around that 16" mark for a white tail. But it depends on the rack cause they don't always get them straight up. but I would have to suggest around that 16" plus or minus 2

I got a Picture of a very wide buck... I know his rack is wider than his ears by i would say at least an inch on both sides. Im not very experienced and guessing these types of things so im trying to get a standard to base off of. I know all deer are dif. but I have to start somewhere. Im not sure how to post a picture otherwise i would just do that.

I've measured them before and I've usually found them in the 15-16" range.

15" - 16" for the ears, 18" is a good mature rack spread.

i guess 18" would be on the wide side, i have a mount with a 21.5" spread with 17" tip to tip.

For a normal mature deer 15-16. I could see the width being larger in say a larger buck (i.e. a buck that dresses out over 250lbs.)

When I field judge a "Rack buck" I use 16" as a standard. I've got two mounted and they're both 16", if not a hair over.

Like other have said I think 15-16 is the average for a mature buck. I'm sure there are a few dumbo like deer out there that would push the limits.

16" is pretty standard for normal position on a mature buck, but not in the "straight out" position the original poster describes, if he indeed meant straight out. That would be more like 18" +

Same here thats what I roughly have. I just measured one I have on the wall and it is 17" from ear tip to ear tip.

16 inches is the standard most use to judge. They vary a bit though. I have several mounts and most are right at 16 inches. However, one of my bigger bucks has small ears, I would say around 14 inches. None bigger than 16 though!

thats good to know, I dont have any deer mounted and its nice to have a point of reference. I had heard a bucks ears were about 14 inches wide, maybe that was from the small bucks down south.
