Just wondering what some of you guys are gettin your big ones on. The last two weeks the bigger fish have seemed to start to get more active in the central minnesota area despite the fact that the water temps haven't dropped much. Last weekend i made it out one morning and got a five fish bag at just a hair over 20 with the big one at 5.25. All came from just off the weedegdge around hard bottom points. All the big ones came on brush hog type baits. Two weekends ago i went out saturday and sunday on 3 different lakes. First lake produced a good evening bite picking up a 20+ five fish bag with the biggest being 4.75 lbs. Caught a few on docks, but the best bite was tight to the weededge on the sides of points, texas rigged plastics was the key. The second lake was a pretty tough bite the best bite we found on this lake was on the inside edge of cabbage beds on steep drops. Caught fish on a mixed bag of techniques: traps, jigs, worms.

The third lake produced two toads on saturday evening. Biggest fish was right at 6 with a second at 5.5 and two others in the 4 lb range. Big fish were found in two distinct types of areas on this lake. Caught them dragging texas rigged plasics on a flat with scattered cabbage clumps on it. It seemed like a good area to throw some cranks but we could only get smaller ones on them. The other area was a steep drop that transitioned from a sandy inside edge to a cabbage bed. The big fish were sitting right on the inside edge. Caught them here on a shakey worm and wacky rigged senko. I'll post some pics in the next couple days. I planning on going out tonight for a couple hours after football practice, will report my results afterwards.

A Labor Day weekend four pounder, my first decent fish on a senko. I'm trying to force myself into trying new techniques, going to stick with the senko this weekend, and who knows, by next year I might even give drop shotting a go? smile

Made it out last night for about an hour and a half. Couldn't find a concentration of bigger fish in that time. Ended up catching 10 with the biggest two going 4.25 and 3.25 the rest were in the 2-3 lb range. Fish came on creatures thrown to the deep wedge. Fish seemed a little finicky though, had several pick ups and drops that definitely weren't bluegill. Probably should've downsized or switched colors. Interestingly enough the water surface temp was 73 degrees, which is one of the warmest temps i've had on this lake this year.

Hey Samalex72 WOW! WOW for a lot of you on here! A day of smallies like you two had... that is heaven. I see your in the little falls area, we have family there and I was thinking of fishing the mississippe with my 4 year old (who avidly casts a spining rod with a popper on it). Can we put a boat in the river up in that area? Any suggestions on a strech of river in that area? Any help would be nice.

Well we got back last night after a great day out on Chequamegon Bay! The weather was perfect. The day started out cloudy with about a 10 mile an hour wind, which creates some decent size swells on that body of water. I'm glad I brought the rain gear because every 10th wave while motoring mangaged to mist the entire boat smile

In the afternoon the wind died down and the sun came out for a beautiful end to the day.

It was our first time out there fishing for smallies. Our numbers of fish could have been better, but the size was INCREDIBLE!!!

It truly is a TROPHY smallmouth water. Our average fish was 19". My alltime personal best before the trip was 18", now I'm proud to say it is 20.5"

We are going back up in two weeks if the wind cooperates again.

Here are a couple shots of some of the fish smile
