Your pros & cons on two man portables ?

Best thing I can say is have him go check them all out and see what one fits his style best.

I highly recomend a Otter Cabin. Great 2 man house but easy to pull out by hand. As stated get the hyfax.

Lets face it no house pulls easy by hand once you get all your gear in it and a few inches of snow.

I would make sure no matter what he gets make sure it has a good sloping front end like the Otter Sled or the Otter Wild sled. Another good house at a great price is the Otter Wild 2. That will come wih everything you need including a cover.

That one will have a bench seat in it if thats what he may like. Check them out at www.otter.com

Larger 2 man Frabill Predator GT. GT sleds pulls very easy per size and weight. (Last years 07/08 model offers the GT sled)

Light 2 man or ultra roomy 1 man, then the Frabill Trekker DLX is tough to beat. Very nice shack, a huge hit in 08 for Frabill!

Roomy 1 man, The Frabill Commando is top dog in comfort and usable space, speed of set-up, and tow ability.

Ulta Lite 1 man, Clam Guide Pro is very solid and light unit.

I agree with Northlander, he should go someplace that has a variety of them and check them all out. There might be some differences to each one and he will have to decide what he likes and dislikes.

I really like my X2. It was easy to assemble, comfortable seats, with a sturdy tub/poles and tough fabric.

I got a Otter Wild series 2 man and I love it. Its good value for the money. Sled it tough as nails espcially with the hy-fax on it, and the tent is decent too. I do have to say that if he is going to pull by hand a lot, it is pretty heavy so be aware of that. I always drive out so its not a problem for me.

If I were going by foot only I would probably be looking at those Frabill houses with the glide trax bottoms on it. Its kind of like built in runners which get the sled up a little higher reducing the amount of work to pull it. It also weighs quite a bit less than the otter.

Any way you do it, my suggestion would be to get to the store and try them out. Its the best way to see what fits you

For the "bang for buck" I'll throw another vote in for the Frabill Trekker DLX. I would check either that or the Team Wild II, whichever he can find & is cheaper at the time. The Frabill is a tad smaller & features between the two would be personal preference.

Check them all out he'll like whatever his choice is. The beauty is there is no wrong decision and it's fun trying them all out.

I've got an Otter Cabin, and it is plenty big for 2 people, IMHO. And at 65" long it will fit into ANY truck bed (except the Ford Explorer Sporttrac) and had plenty of room for gear. Durable sled, reputable company, and quality design and materials. Drawbacks are weight, price, and cracking windows.

For $300 it's hard to beat the Otter Wild 2 which includes sled, canvas, poles, bench, and travel cover.

This year at Gander we definitely sold more Frabills than Clams, and the DLX was definitely the favorite. I have a little Clam Guide though, and love it. Light enough that I don't have a problem going out by myself, but fishes two people just as comfortably.

I have a Clam Pro, it's great for one person and their gear. I have two tackle boxes, a backpack,4 poles, heater, propane and other items in there w/room left yet. A little tight for two people though on a steady basis. But I love it for just me.

Otter otter otter! Going from a flatnose pile ol bricks to drag eskimo, to my two man high sloping nose on the front-otter, she pulls like butter! Even when loaded down with auger and gear for two people. I guess sometimes you do have to man up and pull really hard but thats few and far between... Great sled and great house and like many others have said you truly do get what you pay for and im sure glad i paid the most for the best!

I built a sheft for my 2man, works absolutely great! Now everything doesn't have to be either hanging or on the floor. Clears up a ton of space! I could post pics if anyone is interested in this mod. Extremely simple and sturdy!

I'd love to see that.
