Boobie trap the shack door with a Frabill Arctic Siren tip up alarm.

203443562.jpg

It may spook them off, or it may alert others to look at the shack and witness it or at least get curious.

The yellow square tip-up alarm is VERY loud, like a car alarm. Pretty obnoxious deal once it is set off it gets progressively more obnoxious. It takes time to figure out and disarm it....especially if they can't easily see it and the unit is concealed.

A cheap easy to set up alarm system, I have used it in my boat to booby trap lockers at boat docks if I am concerned about sneak thieves in the night. It payed off once...they ran..I did hear it from the cabin and checked on it and re-set it. No loss's from my boat to date this way.

I like that idea for the boat, Ed.

Problem this winter, with all the snow, is most of "them" are on sleds. Unless you're fishing right next to the house, we aren't gonna probably do much. If they know no one is out there, the alarm, I'm afraid isn't gonna work. Takes way too long, even if it get's someone's attention, to get there to stop em. They've kinda got an advantage this year. Only real solution, to me, is not leave anything behind. Ya, sucks, but I thought taking my keys out of the ignition at a gas station was silly a decade ago when I moved to the cities. 2nd nature now.

Good luck.

Ed, thanks again for the idea for boat lockers. I'm gonna do that one!

Very True..in the night the sneaky bastards have the edge. But thieves are basically chicken [PoorWordUsage] so it may run them off...worth a shot.

But with that obnoxious siren sqauking away..why not make there job a little less fun.

All my other booby trap ideas would put me in jail, and the thieves in the Bahamas spending everything I used to own...don't ja know. Yup...It's a funny world Eh. frown

Stupid preaty well pegs them...drunk is an excuse.

"I did _______ because I was drunk."

Sorry..don't buy it..nope.

Well too freak'n bad...your a thief...deal with it!

I see lost of drunks that find there way home with there own property just fine...some forget where they put it...but good folks tend to respect others property.

A thief is a thief..drunk or sober. They deserve consequences. Lets not allow them the luxury of a easy excuse.

I like the liquor bottle (black berry brandy) idea but I would add a whole bottle of food coloring (purple)in it. Then they would have to explain to mom and dad why there mouth is all purple!

Could also add a little laxitive to ease there hangover!

You guys are missing my point. I am not in any way excusing their behavior.

You say they are chicken****, while I agree that they usually are, the modified state of mind makes them feel invincible.

Yes Ed Carlson, now your on the right track, booby traps. If you keep a battery in your perms hook up some old car horns inside and one or two outside even, maybe a flashing light outside. With a 12 volt battery it would be going off for awhile, but i would bet there is a good chance they would leave your shack alone. Some thing extremly loud, a real attention getter. Its a shame we have to do this, but whatever takes right. Good luck on the ice people.

Quote:
What about leaving a trail cam in your house.

Catch em' red handed!

They have those trail cams that send the pictures directly to your cell phone or computer via sattelite. The police could set up a sting to take a picture when the door opens and get a good picture of the scumbags face to help catch them. Wait in a neighboring house with their cell phone or computer and when the picture comes in...Bam! scumbag in jail.

Also, an old bartenders trick I heard about many times but never had the guts to try... in that bottle of Blackberry Brandy pour a whole bottle of eyedrops in... They'll drink and then vomit, vomit, vomit. It won't kill them but they will be very sick for a while.

I would think you could hide the camera somehow and still make it work. In a cabinet or in the wall somehow so it would go off without being noticed. I've never been ripped off but a friend has and I think I was more [PoorWordUsage]'ed than he was. If we had an eye for an eye system in this country, crime would almost dissappear.

I like the eyedrops idea. I'd been thinking of adding Methelene Blue. That'll turn their pee shamrock green. Maybe a combo of both!! Ya! Pukin' and a peein', just another graveyard shift on the "scum of the earth crew". Wonder what kind of medical they carry? grin Phred52

I had my house in storeage this fall. It got moved out to put boats in the shed. About 2 weeks later, someone broke in and took the heater, hyd. pump and other stuff. On top of that, they burned it to the ground, all that was left, the metal frame and part of the door. The fire was so hot it bent the frame and melted the tires off. There was 1 wheel barrel of ashes from a 7x17 house. I have had a wheeled house for ice fishing since "1977", they been broke into, hit by trucks and had holes drilled around them to try to flood them. But I can't tell you the feeling I have had when I saw what was left. It just unreal.

All I can say is has to stop, the punishment doesn't fit the crime, if they ever get caught. I need to vent bad.

I know a guy with a train horn.....might be a little heavy but it would get the job done or break through the ice.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
