St.Croix Legend Rods vs. Premire

I have both. If you want a springbobber rod the legend is great. It is nice rod even if it did not have the spring. I find the premier is also a nice rod. If you don't need the spring bobber I'd probably just get the premier.

Guess I should have posted this several days ago. I also got one of those coupon books, but didn't feel like driving to Cabelas. I went to Gander in Forest Lake and they had quite a few of them. Evidently they just got a shipment in. I asked if they'd price match, and they told me only if Cabelas had them in stock. I called both Rog. and the big O, and both were sold out.

Good thing I decided not to drive out there in the first place. In the end, I bought one from Gander at $50 because one of mine broke. I'm not happy with Cabelas for putting that in their book knowing that they were out of the stuff. Not cool! 'Course I can't be too mad because I wasn't going to buy it from them in the first place cry

But on topic, I love the legend. I have 3 + a broken one I plan on trying to fix. The spring bobber is just unreal! I've heard of others that have had theirs break on them, but I've had good luck. The one that broke was stepped on. Not many graphite rods will take that.

Out of the UL, Med light and Med, I probably use the Med light and Med the most, with the UL going for those tiny jigs for finiky fish. One of the things I like most about the spring is the action is allows me to put on plastic jigs like the Ratso. You don't have to be as gental to get just the tail going vs. a non-spring bobber rod. Plus, who can't admit that seeing the spring move up when a crappie hits isn't great!

Buy one, sale or not. They're that good!

I was at Cabela's in Rogers a couple weeks ago & their ice fishing inventory was a joke. They had one row of jigs, a few rods and limited line options. It doesn't surprise me that they ran out of Legends. Buy the Premiere & put a cheap spring bobber on it.

I was at Rogers today to pick up the $35 rod with my coupon. They did have 3 on the rack, all 24" Mediums. Upon checkout, the polite lady told me that the coupons are not valid until Jan 8 thru the 18th. Left the rod behind and said "see ya in a few days!" She also thought that they would probably be receiving a shipment of these rods, being they were going on sale w/ coupon, but she didn't know this for sure.

To the initial question posted, I got one of these rods last year and have been extremely pleased with it. Part of this is the whole "spring bobber" idea, which I was late to embrace, but would not be without it now. But the St Croix is a quality rod, I especially like the idea of a threaded reel seat, which isn't that common to find on a lot of ice rods. Personally, I am not real fond of the cheesy rubber straps that ya shrink with the hairdryer.

i have both and the LEGEND is SUPREME over the premier. Hence the price difference. Isn't this OBVIOUS? THat spring bobber is super super super ( icant stress this enough) super sweeeet! If your going for pannies, LEGEND MAN! Honestly I don't even like the premier. The st. croix reel it comes w/ is a piece of junk. The rod strength and design itself is flawless (its st. croix) but compared to the legend, its kinda, how do i say this, "cheap"?

I also paid $25 at Joe's last spring. Money well spent and if they have the same sale again this year, I will buy another one.

Would much rather spend my money there than at the Big "C". I've been very unhappy with "C"s ice fishing inventory this year.

?????

Do any of u guys use them for Walleyes???? Most likley the Mod action. I fish lake of the Wood so we are talking reel eyes 25+ inchers. How would the spring bobber work with spoons and Jigging raps? I have the Avid in mod action and love it for eyes but I can't find them anymore.

heres my .02 cents. I have both of them i love the legends so much that i have 3 of them. If they are all out of stock and u just cant wait to get one then go buy one where ever they are in stock. BUT if u can wait till next year just go to the st paul expo, where i got mine, u can pick them up for 40$ each. As for Cabelas, they have sales ALL the time, just wait a month and another one comes out so dont feel that bad they u didnt get to use ur coupon

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
