St. Croix Rod

I got a 15lb Laker on my St Croix ice crappie pole. U just happened to get the one all the people were "testing" at the store. I would go back and they will give u another. They are totaly worth it, its just a high performance rod problem. They are way more sensitive, but more brittle. I have never had a problem with mine, but have had freinds snap them, and there was no problem getting a replacement.

Gawd that bites, I hope you had a few spares or did that monopoly game come in handy?

Gander is usually pretty good with that stuff, I also got a dud this season that has to go back.

Here's hoping for the both of us that something can be done.

I had a couple of them break when they first hit the market. I called the company and they said to send the first one back but never did. In the meantime the other one broke in the rod case!

The Genz rods are way better.

Have one of the Legends and it's ok but not sure if the spring built in spring bobber is as good as it could be.

Have couple 6.5ft St. Croix fishing poles that have worked great for 8 years now. One broke in a car door but was able to return it when it was 4 years old. Gotta love Cabelas and a 5 year warranty!

It wasnt even close.

I was just looking at the Cabelas Savings Book and they have a coupon for a Legend that you can get for $35. Lots of other good savings too on Vexilars, Big Buddies, Fishtraps, $50 of augers and lots of other deals

Try the avid series. No where near as prone to breaking and just a better all around rod.

Didn't know their was an Avid ice seris rod ... I assume you are referring to their open water rods. Very nice rods + life time warrenty.

They did have an Avid series ice rod but they discontinued them like 2 years ago. Avid ice rods where great, if you had to find one with straight eyes on the rod. I still have an Avid and I think its as good or better than Mitchells or Thornes

Just ticks you off doesn't it?

I've got 3 of those rods, 1 of them broke in the same spot.

Good Luck with St Croix, I don't think you'll get very far with that particular rod. I bet over half of those rods on the market have snapped like that.

Bargain Cave at Cabela's in Rogers has a bunch of those rods on sale for $35. Read the packaging carefully, there is a sticker that says "Factory Modified" or something like that attached to it. They fixed the tips, all the rods are about 2" shorter.

Did you call them? I just checked their HSOforum, they have a one year warranty on Legend and Premier ice rods.

I highly doubt that half of the rods have broke, quite a stretch. If you have a quality sensitive rod, it is thinner and more fragile than one that is not, just the way it is. Gander should exchange it even though they are told not to by companies like Croix and Loomis. I might even say that you never used it.

all I buy is st. croix and have only had one ice rod break and that was my error.....too bad you got a dud but don't let one bad expierence think the company is junk....oh and the legend is by far the best spring bobber system out there imo....

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
