new flasher

I run a FL-18. The 12 is a nice unit but I would recomend a 18 or 20 so you have the auto zoom. Sure is nice to zoom in on the bottom. I have a friend that runs a Marcum lx 3, it is a nice unit also, but My preference has always been Vex. Either way you can't go wrong. I would suggest going out with some people and seeing how theres work. Then make the decision yourself on what you want. Good luck.

Both are quality units but I would go with the Marcum. You have to step up to a Vexilar FL 18 to get the zoom feature which will cost you a lot of extra $.

Once you fish with the zoom feature you wouldn't want to go without it.

fren, the FL-12 is really the same as the FL-8 but with the flat face. Just as the FL-18 and FL-20 are the same but just have the different faces on the front. Pick what you can afford for your first one, and then up grade as your wallet does!

I have a fl-18 and love it, but a fl-20 is great too. If you're thinking of a fl-20 or 12, I know a buddy of mine got a fl-20 at Fish House Supply for only 460 bucks! Thats one of the lowest, if not the lowest price on that set up i've seen. I think the fl-12's there run about $330 which is still one heck of a deal.

i would go with the hummingbird or wait till next year vex is going to change their whole line up so they are comparable to the new hummingbird flasher. i got a hummingbird this fall and i think that it is way better than my old fl 18.

I am not sure what you guys see in the hummingbird...I just bought one, had it out thursday and friday and frankly, I am not all that impressed with it. I know that it will take some time getting used to it but dang... I am not giving up on it yet though...

If you have the money, get the top of the line. The lower end ones will work fine but you'll always wish you had a better one and most likely end up buying a better one anyway. Might as well buy the best and save the money.

Which ever one you decide on, Pro Fishing Supply would be a great place to get it. Dave (PerchJerker) will treat you right!!!

This is my first season on hard water and I was able to find a 2 season old Marcum LX-5 that I was able to get for $350. This thing is like brand new. That much $ wasn't in my budget, but all it took was selling a couple guns that I didn't use anymore. The guys I fish with say I got a great deal.

I was in the market for a new flasher this year and I looked at everything for everyone. With the features on the brands, Vexilar didn't hold up to the Humminbird or the Marcum. Both of these are much better units for the money. I got the Humminbird and have liked it. My buddy got the Vex FL-20 new this year and I have more options on mine, paid less, and caught more fish than him.

muahahahahahahahahaha i love it when people claim they catch more fish then another guy using a different brand...you just hammered them because you were using a marcum instead of a vex or hummingbird or visa versa...good humor.

see fish, catch fish....they all do that if you know what your doing.

things aren't crisp enough for ya adjust your gain...if your getting interference hit the buttons until your not getting it anymore.

i'll use any of them and catch fish and tell you how deep it is and the bottom content....only thing i need is auto zoom...if they don't have auto zoom i wouldn't buy it.

You hit it on the nose. They'll all get the job done equally well!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
