2008/09 Ice fishing Reports

Recommended Posts

Had 2 eight year olds with me this weekend . . .Moraine as always was a hit. Nonstop dinks but they caught fish and all on their own. Conditions were sloppy and expected two wet little females but they saved their sploshing until just coming off the ice. The magic phrase was, "I have to go to the bathroom . . ." Not bad holding it for 3 hours. Hey Lee, was that the spot we talked about?

Jay, I looked at the jigs on my lunch and NICE JOB and Thanks a lot. Tried to get on Maki last night but my Norton kept blocking it saying it was attacking my computer. I emailed him to see if I can just put in a phone or email order.

AW, I'm usually down in Madison fishing but this year I've been trying to fish different spots to learn how to break them down (like in tournament situations). The best I've done is when I go blind... LOL

Change of plans. I’m not going to New Orleans. My wife is flying out by herself to visit her family and friends. I’ll be home with the kids. I got Monday, Thursday, and Friday off next week if anyone would like to get out. I might have one of the little ones with me, but there pretty good fisherkids for their age. I’m looking to get out as much as possible.

No prob Lee, really glad you got into em. Makes me laugh when I think back to some rumors that were started saying I couldn't find or catch fish whistle

That lake we fished this afternoon was a wierd one. We poked a ton of holes and caught 12-15 small/med gills, 2 big gills, a few small crappies, and 3 nice 11-12 inch crappies. The strange part was that we found fish everywhere from 10fow to 30 fow and belly or 10 ft down over 28ft. No rhyme, reason, or pattern...

KappyDick - was that you we chatted with out there today?

No, I fished it last week and did real good on big gills but no crappie. We fished it all to ourselves last season and this year it has gotten hammered. I didn't fish yesterday went to the [PoorWordUsage] Syracuse game..should of went fishing.

Kirkville, Those pictures with your boy are awesome..makes me smile everytime I scroll down past them. Nice job!!!

Kappy - It was strange, we walked out to a trap and Tank asked if it was KappyDick. The guy said yep then silence. I said its Tank and Dark Cloud here to bug ya, and more silence then the guy started talking about the lake and other lakes but never opened his tent. So we chatted a bit then started drillin. A little while later I told Tank that wasnt Kappy but probably some confused person with bad hearing, lol....

That's what Tank told me last night...Thats some funny chit....I would never be that rude and I would have been right out there to shake your hands. Wish I knew who it was, probably one of the people that fish the pits down in Hillcrest because i've heard them talking about where you guys were.

What's up Kappmeister??? Give me a call sometime, so we can fish. I am planning on heading your way again to fish with DC and Tank sometime in the near future.

I fished BB today with Jake (Kirkville's Son) from 3:30 'til about .5 hours into dark. We didn't do much. Jake got a Slammer Perch and we each got a BuuTT load of Dinkers. I did manage to find the secret Callico location around dark. I lost a Freaking SLOB at the hole. I don't remember when I had a Straberry rip line off a real with some serious head shaking going on shocked I got a few on the ice, all C&R. I didn't realize what time it was and had to get jake home before Chris and Dana had helicopters looking for us eek I ran into a buddy of mine while he was leaving the ice tonight and got the lowdown on the Strawberries in BB and Hatch. Word around the very tiny campfire is, the Strawberries in Hatch have to be bent in half to get them in the bucket wink I am meeting up with him for a night bite tomorrow and need to confirm such proposterus info laugh If confirmed...you will not see me for a while after dark cool

AW - How about beating on some sunfish tomorrow afternoon? Our spot hasn't delivered a let-down this year. As long as you dont bring the curse of "thunderchum" with you, we should be good to go... whistle

Jay - Hey leave our weatherman alone! laugh

AW great fishing with you.... After I left BB round 1830 hours I left for Morraine figured I could get out to a decent crappies spot on the main lake but where I usually park on that end some body put up a "No Parking sign" mad When I swung the Silly around I noticed on the right a pull-in between a coupl mailboxes and wondered but i couldn't tell if there were drag marks guard rail slopes on the lake side. Anyhow I fished the small side and after I got off the phone with todd my screen started filling up with a bunch of these guys. I was fishing 10.5' and the fish were stacked 3-4' from the bottom, started catching small craps after small craps.

They were pretty agressive and this is the best one I caught maybe 6"

1001413.jpg

Anyway I had a good time catching and booked Morraine about 10:10 p.m. Will get em next time AW. Count on it!

Tank and I headed south this afternoon to a brand new lake. Small and a bit of a walk in but worth checking out. Drilled around and nothing but dink perch then I wacked these two...

p2262821.jpg

A few more holes and Tank caught a nice pickerel. Then I hooked something solid and was thinking another pickerel till I saw silver and this guy filled the hole...

p2262824.jpg

We caught another nice sunny and two more decent crappies and that was it...

Was very nice fishing in sweats and a hoodie cool

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
