Jon Thompson
I’m looking for some help. My dad winters in Florida and I was getting his gear ready for a trip we are talking when he gets back and his G. Loomis Walleye WJR 742S broke when I flexed it once. I heard these rods have a lifetime warrantee(I wouldn’t know can’t afford one myself). Is this true and if so what is the procedure for getting one replaced. I would appreciate the help. I’m hoping to get it replaced before he gets home.
john.wells
You may want to stretch the truth a little and say it was while landing a fish. A tip for anyone- rods are meant to use the line through the eyes for flex, especially graphite ones. Each eye distributes the load, whereas just flexing from butt to tip by hand will put stress on one spot more than another!
traveler
Jon; go to the Loomis HSOforum and it will explain the warrenty procedure. Basicailly 2 choices; 50 bucks for no questions asked expediated service; or you can send in the rod, they will see if it's a warrenty issue or not, and charge accordingly. crazyice
This is why I love St. Croix. No questions asked, just either replaced or repaired no extra cost. Just shipping.
TrophyEyes
That is not the experience that I have had with St. Croix.
uffdapete
I sent in a G Loomis last summer and opted for the $50 deal since the break was operator error. They send you a new rod shipped prepaid and enclose a prepaid shipping return label for you to return the broken rod in their tube. Keep in mind if you opt for the $20 deal you pay for shipping one way plus insurance which will likely be around $22, in addition to finding or buying a tube and then you still are hoping they decide in your favor. The $50 option was a no brainer for me. You can find a number to call by googling G Loomis.
zamboni
Call Cabelas and see if they would replace it.
harvey lee
My expierence with Loomis was to send it in along with the $50.00 to replace. That was the easiest. I do believe that most rod builers can tell if the rod was broke due to operator error or if it was broke while fighting a fish. Seems they can look at the break and where it broke and tell what probably happened or at least that is what I was told by a few.
JohnMickish
G. Loomis also has an expedite service for $65. No questions asked and next day shipping. If your dad is coming home soon that might be an option. You can also get ahold of Thorne Bros and talk to them, maybe they will handle things for you. Do you know where it was purchased? Talk to them if you do.
hoggs222
I have done this 2x now. Take it to a G Loomis dealer (capras, cabelas, gander, or whatever). If they have it in stock, you can give them the $50 and walk out the door with it.
Deitz Dittrich
Like all above, bring it to a dealer.. pay the moolah and get a new rod!
Neighbor_guy
This is a prime example of why I am saving $$$$ for a loomis. St. Croix basicaly told me tough hop when I broke my last one. To Quote my neighbor "... 1-800-expoditer..." Pay big money up front you break it for any reason, they fix it for 50 bucks, or 65 bucks whatever it is. fishinJohn
Man would that suck! Good thing they have the replacement policy. With so many people aware of the policy it makes me think they break pretty easy.
hoggs222
Mine have only broken due to people stepping on them, etc. They always pay the $50 for it too! Sounds like a good way to refresh your rods every 5 years or so!
youngie22
fenwick snapped today, Wish I could blame it on a fish!
JohnMickish
I'm only aware of the policy as a "just in case". With the investment I have in rods it's good to know how to get something replaced if things go wrong.
rodmaker
First of all, how far from the tip did it break off. When you send in a rod back they will determine if it was a defective blank or not. If it was not, they will replace it for a nominal fee. They stand behind their product better than ANYONE ELSE even St. Croix!!!!! Dealing with an experience in the past with a St. Croix rod. Wanderer
Quote: With so many people aware of the policy it makes me think they break pretty easy. They get broke cuz they're the ones always gettin used! The 4 Loomis rods I have are not the same ones I bought originally - none of em. All incidental damage, not defects. The Expeditor program takes the fear out of treating yourself to a spendy rod. Not to bash St. Croix since I have enjoyed fishing with the ones I have bought, but I only have one left because its the only one that hasn't broke yet. Hmmm, why didn't I get those other Croix's replaced again?
