davesfriend
If I were to avarage it I would have to say less than $20. I run stick baits. Are we counting Mt.Dew? If so closer to $60:)
walleyewild
More then I should, but less then I'd like to. I can't go into a bait store with out spending an extra 20.00 -30.00 bucks on something that I gotta have. There is always that new lure and you can't buy just one, in case you get bit off or snagged,
katoguy
Tough to say. I buy most of my stuff in the off-season (winter). I probably have spent $1500 in lures, rods, and reels in the last 3-4 months. Hopefully, I only avg $20 per month during open water season. Avg per month over the year $100-$150? RiverBassGuy
Probably around $50 a month. That doesn't count the st. croix/shimano combos I buy every year. Wait till hunting season, then I'm really broke!
Northlander
I dont tell my wife and Im not telling you. Really I dont know but its a good bit. But fishing is my passion. All I know is in the long run its a heck of a lot cheaper than sitting in a bar some place.
Daze Off
I have no clue....probably $50/month or something close is a good stab an an average.

Nick Kuhn
Not much, maybe $20. I only add a few lures each year, never fish with live bait, and only buy a new rod/reel once in a while.
Iambjm
Let's see, I quit a three pack a day smoking habit in 1989. Cigs are $4 a pack x 3 = $12 x 30 days =$360 a month I should spend on fishing. I probably spend around $20 a month unless I go to a sporting goods store or order online, then it is equal to the national budget.

BoxMN
Too much... and not enough, at the same time Heck, if you take pop, beer, gas and license out of the picture, really not that much, especially once you have a bunch of quality rods and reels already. I buy lures and that stuff over the winter, so once summer comes around, probably only $20 a month, a bit more for leeches or minnows for early season. But add in the yearly cost, and divide it up, ha! I bet I am at $150 a month easy just for "stuff". Then add in gas and oil and beverages... gulp... I don't want to know. ...then add in hunting... double gulp...
TrophyEyes
I usually buy One Rod and One Reel per year, so that is about $250, and probably $100 in replacement tackle, and another $50-$100 in line. This year for example I have purchase 2 rods ($200), 1 reel ($109), $30 in line and $30 in tackle. My wife said that was enough. Luckly I get about $400 in gift cards a year so I really only have to count out of pocket costs, Right?Hunting.....Ammo, ammo and ammo. I am a sucker for ammo and Rapalas. Don't ask me why, I am like a girl shopping for shoes; I always need more.
eyepatrol
Excluding gas money and one-time purchases of line, rods, reels, etc......Bait: 3doz of leeches/cralwers/minnows @ $2.50/doz @ 1day/wknd @ 4wknds/mo = $30/moFood/drink: $5/outing @ 1outing/wknd @ 4wknds/mo = $20Total = $50/mo average. SDHNTR
Definately way more than my wife would be happy about and enough to make sure I stay happy. If you exclude the gas, which is probably the biggest part, I spend about $40-$50 a month on fishing. If that is the cost of keeping from going nuts, its money well spent. TrophyEyes
Seriously, when I worked at Gander, I swear they got half our paychecks back.
Down Deep
I have no idea, but last night I spun on about $100 worth of line on my reels. The rods, reels and bait are the most insignificant part of my fishing expense. It is the cost of the boat and accesories and the cost of travel that is the expensive part. I will tell everyone this. When I'm in the hospice waiting for the grim reaper to show up; I am not going to be wishing I had more money in the bank and went fishing less. riverrat56
Whoever said money couldn't but happiness never held a good fishing rod......I heard this one time, and I've lived by it for awhile now, not always a sound choice during college, but I'm working on it. And I know the first time I set the hook into a dandy eye with my new stick, I'll forget all the Ramen Noodles I had to eat to buy that rod.I would say, excluding gas, around $50-75 a month, but it really varies, some months its $300, and some its only for bait. SDHNTR
Lets rephrase the question a little but in this instance it is really the same question. "What does it cost you per month for happiness?"
Iambjm
Lets see, I save a lot of money buying my leeches by the pound. Does that mean I can spend more money on tackle?
The Grebe
I really don't keep track of the outdoor expenses on a monthly basis...sometimes I spend a little, sometimes more then I should! I never get nuts though. If you are counting the cost of the gas to and from, then I'm spending alot and I'am nuts! I could buy the very best fillet of fish/beef/pork/lamb/poultry, whatever, have chef John come in and do it up for me and it would still be a lot less then what the skimpy fillets I bring home from fishing cost! This past winter was rough! I figure that the meager perch fillets cost me about $900.00 a pound!
