icecold
Can anyone recommend a jig head that they think really improved there catch rate for walleyes, have tryed alot of brands over the years but is there one that really stands out above the rest. any one that seems to hold the fish better and not have so many lost fish. The Hammer
Patterson's real bait. It is a stand up jig with a blade on it. Or I prefer to use my own that I make.

PerchJerker
You should match the style of the jig to how you're fishing. Fireballs are great for tipping with minnows, because they have a short shank and a wide hook gap. Round head long shank jigs are great for plastics, as the hook is positioned farther back in the plastic and the plastic fits the jig better. There's other styles too, swimming heads and stand-up jigs, etc. and they are all made to serve a purpose. Using the right jig head in the right situation should help you improve. Are you really losing hooked fish on a jig, or missing bites? Missing bites will happen, but losing hooked fish with a jig is not very common. You should be using your drag (or better yet, backreeling) to give the fish some line and remove pressure when they're digigng for the bottom. You should be using a 6.5 to 7 foot rod, in Medium, Medium Light or even Light power with a fast action to fish jigs. I prefer mono for most situations but some guys prefer the no-stretch super lines. As was mentioned, if you're missing lots of bites try a stinger hook. Those Storm jig eye with I believe VMC hooks and minnow shape head under slipbobber.
Northlander
A good all around jighead for live bait is the Northland Fireball or the Fin Tech odd ball. There are a lot of jigs for a lot of techniques. I probably use more wide gap type jigs than anything else. When using plastics I use a lot of bullet head jigs. Tom what are you calling current cutters? I have seen a few different styles called current cutters.

Chode2235
I do wish the fireball came in more colors, particularly glow colors.
Northlander
Fireball comes in glow green, chart, orange and white. Plus they have the metalic colors wich I have had great success with on LOW and Rainy River/Lake. I really like the metalic chart on the St. Louis River. Sandmannd
Yep, fireballs and stingers here too. Only use stingers when the bite is real light and they help a lot.
icecold
I always thought that a stinger is illigal in minnesota?
PerchJrkr
nope. you can use a treble hook as long as its part of a lure. and ive asked a game warden about this so technically, you can put on a treble hook with a bead above it or a spinner or whatever and its considered a lure.a treble hook by its self is considered the same as using 3 hooks on a single line i beleive.
