Beware- More Pathetic Thieves Are Amongst Us

I worked hard to buy myself a new portable at the end of the season last year, only to have it stolen right off my sidewalk at my home this winter. Thank god for whoever did this that I was not home at the time and caught them in the act, but I'm troubled that somebody(s) did this while my family was asleep inside my home. I'm really kicking myself for not putting it out of sight- it sat in the same spot all last season and most of this season. To top it all off, the sled was full of all the extra stuff that is required to ice fish. Everyone, just a reminder to get your valuables out of sight. I'm now trying to decide what I'm going to do with my boat that has sat out in plain sight, as well-I won't be leaving my rods and trolling motor out that's for sure. Sucks you have to go to the extra lengths to secure your valuables. Criminals, if your out there, please realize that not all of us that have nice things have an abundance of money- we have worked hard to acquire these things that you so selfishly steal from us. I hope your always looking over your shoulder when your using my stuff-I'm watching. Enough said.

I've got problems with people trespassing and shooting splat balls all over the place and close at defensless people...Darn neighbors, I might have to get the varmin rifle out! LOL's

I've also saw one of the litter bugs throwing trash out the window in the neighboorhood. Very nice looking blue Ford F150 with doulbe silver race stripes and roll cage with floodlights, lift kit and upsized and offset chromies. I'll get your license one of these days. Then find out where you live and shove all that trash on your front doorway. LOL's

Criminal activities...oops, I should refrain...

For years, I have been protecting my hunting gear while hunting out of town. Last fall, after a long, wet day - we got lazy and did not remove our waders from our duck boats. We have our duck boats stacked and chained together overnight. Someone took the time and effort to dig in between the chained boats and steal 3 of our 4 pairs of waders. This all happened within 20 feet of our hotel room. That night several thousand dollars worth of hunting gear was stolen from hunters trucks at the one hotel alone.

It is pretty sad, but you can not leave your things unsecured anymore. Even in remote areas. I hope you recover your stuff.

Sorry to hear that. We all need to realize that with the economy going in the dumps, and higher gas prices and everything else that comes with this, crime will also be increasing. Thinking I should probably get a locking gas cap.

what a load of [PoorWordUsage]. first, the economy is turning down but it isnt a survival of the fittest. doesnt matter whether we are in a boom or bust, a thief is a thief. talk to your grandfathers about thieves during the depression and listen to what they have to say. if someone is low enough to steal he will do it regardless of the economy

Gills

You encountered a situation similar to mine, in that you had sporting related goods stolen. The question that comes to my mind is, do you think they are stealing it to use it themselves or do they intend on selling it? For those of you that patronize online classified, remember you might very well be buying my stolen merchandise. Proof of purchase on these items would go a long ways towards curbing the ability for these schmucks to resell the goods online. Oh well, I guess for every willing and able thief, there are probably an equal number of willing and able people that will buy stolen merchandise without giving it a second thought. I wonder if pawn shop owners sleep well at night, knowing that all of the power tools and such they buy from people are stolen off job sites? Scum if you ask me.

Couldn't agree with you more tacklejunkie. There is no excuse. I'm not sure if the original post was making an excuse or just the way they see it. I grow tired of excuses being made for low lifes.

I wasn't making an excuse for anyone, just what I think. I do think someone will steal regardless of the economy if they are low enough. I'm just saying its going to increase as gas prices go higher and such. Drive offs at gas stations are already on the rise. With incomes staying the same and prices rising don't you think more people get tempted?

My brother had a guy try to steal his auger from him this winter. These two guys went to every house on the lake trying to find an easy mark, it was a tuesday at 2:30am so there shouldnt have been anyone there. When they got to his house he steped out, one was looking in his house with a flashligt, the other asked if he could use his auger, witch was denied. When they realized someone was out there, they beet feet home.

Sorry to hear about your stolen property jigginlow. Unfortunately I also had to write a similar post earlier in the season, so I know how you feel. I spent most of the ice season gradually replacing all the items that were taken because like you said, some people actually have to work for what they have.

I can only suggest the same thing that everyone suggested to me; check local pawn shops and on-line sites like craigs list and hsolist.

Good Luck to you.

Too many low-life bloodsucking predators. I hate people that steal and I don't like people that knowingly buy stolen stuff any better. If they didn't have a market to sell it would they still take it?

I hate that anyone ever gets things stolen from them. Like mentioned earlier crime will only rise because of the crapy economy. My moto is lock it or lose it. Even then it will get stolen at times but at least then your insurance may help you out.

Take pics of what you have and save them, along with receipts! I keep a separate folder on my photo site call "insurance photos" and a file in the drawer with receipts too.

Just hope I don't need them......

What do you all think? Do you think the ice house manufacturers could be convinced to put serial numbers on their houses? Or would that just drive up the already inflated price? I can't believe it would be that difficult- maybe just scribe it in an inconspicuous place on the plastic sled. It would have to help-aside from a couple of small details on mine I would never know it from the rest of the thousands of them out on the lakes. Any thoughts anyone?

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
