When to mount a slab crappie?

My question is what is the smallest slab (black) crappie that you would mount?

I know this is very situational, lake, how it was caught, girth etc. But I'm just curious as to what peoples' cut off is, if you have one?

a friend and i got several big slabbers earlier this winter. We threw alot back, but he kept his biggest, a 16. I think thats a reasonable size to mount if you do a search, (a nice metro crappie) a lot of discussion was brought up on that thread. One idea i liked, was to mount more than one crappie at a time and have them just a bit smaller than the biggest so it really shows the size of the trophy.

I have personally seen one like that, where there was 2 15's and 16 all from red lake in an evening of fishing. IT was absolutly goergous, and like you said it really showed the true size of the 16.

When I was 13 I got a 15.5 inch 2.6 pounds my old man mounted it for me. yes there are bigger ones and I have caught some in that ball park but that one will always be "the" one for me.

As stated before each case is unique but I think anything north of 15 inches will make you proud.

Really depends on what type of a mount I'm looking to have done. Lets say I want a mount of numerous crappies swimming on a piece of driftwood, size to me then really doesnt matter much. I have numerous walleye mounts and the nicest one I have is of a 4# eye swimming on a piece of driftwood chasing a minnow in front of his mouth. Yes, I have the big hogs but I personally like the action mounts more.

Its all in the eye of the beholder like stated above. Sometimes the story behind the fishing trip or day is a good reason to mount one too.

I'm in the 16" inch threshold too...That is my goal. Boy it sure would be tough and go against your goal and carve it up if it was 15.5". Getting a 16 is just a rarity around here...But if I happen to get lucky enough to catch a sting of 15's. I would have to lower my standards and go for a multiple mount.

It's at the taxidemist,I want to get a few more and make the corner of my living room a lake scene with ice on the ceiling,an 8" hole and line coming out of the hole with my *** stuck in it's mouth and a shadow of a fishermen above the ice.

Now THAT is a cool idea! I'd love to see a picture of that when you get it done.
