Why Nils is better???

If they use an engine that is half the size of what most companies use why is the Nils so much more expensive? I understand the blades are really good but they charge like 100 bucks more than the lazer mag express:/

Thanks for clarifying,

Ryan

Just to clear up a few points...

the Nils Powerhead is a Tanaka 262DH that was designed for industrial/commercial drilling applications. I believe the SM powerhead was designed with the consumer in mind...

You can get a replacement blade head (8 inch) for the Nils for $65, replacement blades for the Lazer are ~$30. The difference is $35.

So looks like Nils it will be. How fast will the augers sell out at the ice show? Thats when I'll be purchasing one.

Last year we sold all the power units we had but I believe 2 on the 1st day.

Come see me at the Nils or Otter booth and Ill help you out with any questions you may still have. I should be there all weekend.

A locking gear case and a 24-1 gear ratio are new this year as well as a slightly more powerfull motor. Im very anxious to see these new ones cut up some ice!

I ran into Surface Tension late ice season last year and he demonstrated the Nil's, I was very impressed!!! Pretty much drills on its own.

I picked one up last year and it actually feels like I am lifting up on the auger when drilling because the blade is so aggressive. Complete opposite of any other auger I've used and had to push down on.

I went to a permanent shack we didn't move all season and re-drilling holes was no issue. Granted I fished all over the place as well in my portable. Between re-drilling and all the other holes I drilled I will start out this season with the same set of blades I had on all last season. I do have a spare set of blades just in case but have not needed them in a full season.

They do sell fast.

they claim that they are the fastest screw rpm correct?

I don't know about the fastest but the cutting head is darn sharp and dose all the work so you will not get wore out when you are running and gunning all weekend long. It is such a pleasure to not get a back ache from lugging around a 3hp motor that weighs 40 or 50 pounds(old Jiffy model 30)to just 22 pounds. I have never tried mine as a hand auger but will have to this year just to see how easy it will cut.

After watching Paul Waldowski(General Manager at Appeldoorn's Sunset Bay Resort) up on ML last year drilling holes with one hand on the Nils, hole after hole! It made a believer out of me wink.

I have plans to get one soon! smile

Shack if you would have seen Lisa (Lisatealz) on Winni last winter when we were searching for the spot on the spot. I was checking holes and she must have drilled 20 to 30 holes and I finally had to tell her to stop cause I had found the spot I was looking for on the bar. I think she was having t much fun wink

Ya, that is what struck me last year watching Paul! He was having fun while drilling holes (late March). This coming from a guy who drills holes all the time (and season) for the resort??? crazy

Late in the season, even when drilling the first hole with my Strike Master, I kind of dread having to bust threw the ice crazy.

Not the Nils grin I would assume it makes it way easier to explorer, even after a long ice season.

Thanks Paul for drilling all the holes that day, well minus my 2-3 with my auger grin

Funny thing about the "Nils" auger is that any one who has one wants to demonstrate it for you grin.

They “have” to show you how quick it is. They also want to race while drilling holes grin.

I never did that with my Strike Master whistlegrin

My back was wearing out too fast and the Jiffy I had just might run forever grin Think Sherman tank

I really do think that the Tanaka power head will last just as long or longer laugh

I suppose if my Jiffy fell out of my pickup and broke on the highway the grinch (I mean wife) would figure out what really happened. I think the darn thing will out live me. crazy

Thats what I didn a few yaers back. Found a college kid who needed a auger and sold my old beast. 3 horse 10" Jiffy.

I wont say I miss that auger but its still running strong as far as I know.

Im not a better fisherman because of the Nils but I do have more ambition and energy to search because of it. I know I catch more fish that way.

I wont run anything else. That is until Nils makes a better one.

I also owned a Jiffy stealth for a few years and was very happy with the auger. My back didn't like the extra weight but it did cut well.

Now, the Nils, a very lightweight auger, very fast cutting and starts great. With the Nils, I do need to be a bit more careful with with cutting tip as it has a shaver head and the jiffy used the chipper style bit. If I get very rough with it or drill holes alot in very sandy ice, I may need to change my cutting head once a year. I usually ship it out to get sharpened for a very snmall fee and it ready to go again.

It does catch me more fish as I can cut more holes in a day on the ice without getting as near as tired versus my old Jiffy with the extra weight. With cutting more holes and moving more, I can locate more pods of fish and also stay on the fish longer.

You couldn't pry my Nils out of my hands.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
