FL-20 worth upgrading from FL-18?

I really like my FL-18, but am tired of letting my son-in-law use mine while I fish blind. My solution is to give him my FL-18 and looking to upgrade to an FL-20.

Anyone have any feedback on a move from the FL-18 to 20?? What differences do you really like/dislike? Any problems with knocking out interference in a large crowd?

I saw someone using one and noticed that the yellow color beam was replaced by an orange color. Not sure that I liked it because it was too close to the red color, so seemed harder to read. ANY comments on this color change?

P.S. Many of you Marcum guys will probably suggest going Marcum - but at this time I am sticking with Vexilar :-)

Thanks!

Heck ya it's better. I have an 18 and love it - until my buddy got the 20. That bastage! The screen is so bright in the sun and has a dimmer deal for night. If you're a Vexilar guy this is the cats meow.

You're going to give him an 18? Do you have anymore daughters that are cute and single? Ha - J/K

I reccomend the LX-5 if you are thinking FL-20.

He asked it anyone thinks the 20 is better than the 18. Keep this post on topic.

After seeing a couple of them in use, I like the 20. The screen is so much easier to see than the 18. Unless you have cash buring a hole in your pocket, stick with the 18 and see what the next unit vexilar produces.

If you plan on using your flasher on a boat during the summer months I'd stick with the FL-18 simply for the bottom lock feature. If you plan on using it only for ice fishing I would go with the new FL-20.

Best advice given in this post... It depends on if you are going to use it for open water... THe screen on the 20 is nice, I myself have a FL-18 as a back up unit and it works great. Its going to come down to personal preference.

He did read the small print. Shads said "...at this time" Figured maybe after thinking about it he might want the best now which is the LX-5. grin.gif Sorry Chad just had to do it ;\)

Wow lots of Marcum fishers in chatting about the vex must be looking to switch, I have a 18 nd I love it out fished many a buddy with the marcums, good note about open water with bottom lock and the 18, a freind fished with my 18 and bought the 20 the next day, I tried it for a while and the screen is nice but not a deal breacker for me. If you use it in the summer go with the 18

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I ended up piking up the FL-20 with the dual cone transducer. Love the dual cone - has already come in handy. Also like that Vex charger now goes into trickle mode when charged completely - no more worrying about forgetting to take it off the charger when done.
