harvey lee
I am always amazed at the insulated cover for these Canvas Craft houses as they heat so easy with so little of a heater. Then, the pole system is very easy to get up and down. Thanks to Canvas Craft for ,building one of the best portables and the warmest on the market. harvey lee
I am almost done putting together a new Lodge sized insulated Canvas Craft. Everything fit to a T.The canvas is wonderful and will for sure be alot easier to heat. The pole system is simply awesome. It also has a skirt around the bottom inside so no snow or blowing snow can get into the portable from the sides. I always had issues with blowing snow in the holes when it was windy unless I really banked the side of the tub.If your looking for an insulated portable, give Matt or Ben a call in Rogers, MN with any questions.Canvas Craft also offers the Northlander form what I have been told by another member, they work great for speasring. Then, looking to haul your 4 wheeler in your house, Canvas craft also can take care of that with a great new addition to the Canvas Craft line up.A quality portable from top to bottom.http://www.canvascraftinc.com/
croixflats
I had a full year last year with my CC Northlander and love it. Nothing better out there IMO.The Northlander had a bit of sagging issues in the ceiling when it snowed heavily but no big deal. I came across an easy and cheap remedy for this.I cut 3 electric pvc, the gray stuff, conduit just short of the width of the shanty then put a 90 degree elbo on each end. Placed each conduit above the center brace. Placed them out evenly. Now they act as ribs and tighten up the top and sides of the shanty. The weight of the tent keeps ribs in place. I also put elastic netting stretching from one rib to another for a place to put gloves and hats.$5 remedy that works great.Next I may invest in the lodge size like Harvey lee both styles have there place on the Ice. elkrivermn
I have not tried my 8x8 northlander nsulated yet as I bought it at the end of the season. With all the stuff I bought to put inside it, folding alluminum table for the microwave oven and Tv bunk cot beds, portable rattle reels, 12' lp gas line for my big buddy heater, electrical line for my inverter, I should be a very happy guy even if the fish are not biting. Thanks for all the great info and tips from croixflats and others last spring. Shack
I ran a Canvas Crafts shelter for a little over 10 years. Hundreds (if not over a 1000) of trips in this shack. The best thing about Canvas Crafts fish houses is they hold value. I sold mine this last summer/fall and recouped 2/3rds of what I payed for the set-up 10-11 years ago. I just shot it out their and got what I wanted.
jigginjim
The 8x8 looks like it could make a good overnite shelter. Does the att have a 6'6"x 12" trailer?
elkrivermn
I believe it does Jigginjim. One of the reasons I bought the 8x8 suitcase over the flip over is that I would be able to use it overnight. The fact that it has a plywood floor instead of bare ice in a flip over makes me think my feet would stay warmer also. I was thinking of trying Buffalo overnight this season , but who knows the theives on the lake might try to steal me my house and my quad! jigginjim
I left My suit case style house on buffalo last winter for the first 3 weeks of season. But was not as nice as yours. I put mine on a wood plate that fit the whole floor of my 4x7 shack. banked up it seemed to be warmer, then just being on the ice. Next time I may put it higher off the ice. Thought of putting in an exhaust fan under floor, suck cold air out from under floor, which would pull warm air from inside the house under floor. TravP
My next portable will definately be either a insulated canvascraft or frabill rtec.
Surface Tension
I fished out of Tom's Insulated Double Otter. That thing is a sweat deal for sure. It didn't take much heat for it to stay very comfortable. I do some "sled in" winter camping trips. The R2 insulated Double Otter or Northlander would be ideal to use there. Set it up on the lake and there is your home base and shelter to fish out of. Would also be the cats meow when I take the whole family out ice fishing. Right now I use two portables to do that. I was browsing CC site and see they have a flip over for a UTV.
bassNspear
The 8x8 looks like it could make a good overnite shelter. Does the att have a 6'6"x 12" trailer? ton of room, i have it and use it for spearing! Its nice to be able to have a ton or room and be able to have 3-4 guys sitting in the house comfortable! Grainbelt
I just ordered a norpacr2 flip over house last Saturday. They said it will be ready on Wednesday. Everything is 10% off right now. Can't wait to hook it up to the snowmobile and be totally mobile this coming weekend.

Grainbelt
I am really happy with this house, I got it out a few times. It has a nice bright interior that is easy to light with a AA LED light. Too bad it got warm so soon, I am looking forward to next year.
Ed Carlson
I have one of the few Frabill Commando R2-Tech shacks made and put some ice time on it this season. Very honestly I find it the nicest 1 man shack I have ever seen and/or used, and at this point can imagine.I can heat it with a Mr. Heater Buddy 4000 on low even on the coldest of nights. Humidity and frosting has not been a concern and the fabric is silent in the howling prairie winds. The fit and lay of the NorPac fabric on the Frabill Commando frame is like a custom tailored suit. Canvas Craft does an exceptional job on the R2-Tech line for Frabill.I hope to see the Frabill Commando R2-Tec and possibly the Frabill Trekker R2-Tech DLX added in the 2010/2011 line for all whom wish one. Or made as an upgrade from Frabill as an option for an aftermarket exchange of the skin on the Commando and the Trekker DLX.
TravP
I asked this same question in the icefishing forum regarding the otter cabin, but I'm also looking at the medium norpacR2 package from canvascraft. Does this combo fit under a tonneau cover of a 2003-2006 chevy z71? It doesnt look like the otter will but I was thinking that with the smaller diameter frame, that this package might, without the seats attached. Thanks guys
harvey lee
Mine does fit but I modified the poles where they attach to the frame to get it to fit.
TravP
Mine does fit but I modified the poles where they attach to the frame to get it to fit. Could you post some pics of how you did that? Thanks
harvey lee
It is packed away far back in the shed in North Dakota.I had to change how the poles layed on the tub so they did not stack all on top of each other. The soonest I could get some photo's is maybe later in the month of September.
