Strikemaster Differences

I am trying to decide between the Strikemaster Mag 2000 and the Lazer Mag Express augers. Can anyone tell me the differences between the 2. Is there any difference other than the auger blade iteslf? Which would you go with. Want to purchase today.

Thanks for the help.....

I have the Lazer Mag 2000 and this year for Xmas my wife and son bought me the new Lazer blade auger. The old chipper worked well, the Lazer blade is unbelievably fast. I just switched the auger shaft and now I have two. I drilled 5 holes in less than 5 minutes through 18" of ice. It really rocks. good luck and hang on. Bill

The new strike master has a recall on them, I dont know what one you are looking for but the one got for x-mas was $420 and something with a gear pin broke or something that I am not realy sure, but when I brought it bake to cabelas that was the 13th one brought back that day of the same auger and the guy said that they had a recal. But i dont know if its the same one that you are looking for.

I've had both and the Lazer is significantly faster. Not twice as fast but close I'd say. I never had any trouble re-opening holes with either of them. But if you're fishing a lake that gets a lot of fine sand or dirt blown on it the chipper is a better option. Other than that the lazer is faster.

The Strikelite I used sure seemed faster than the lazer Mags I used. Not a lot faster, but faster and lighter as well. But I really have concerns about the flighting on the Strike Lite as I know several guys who have broken theirs especially in colder weather. Strikemaster has always been good about replacing and at least two ended up switching to the metal flighting. Then there's the price. If I'm paying that much money I'd just get the Nils, (which I did). But that's me and I do know several guys like yourself who really like them especially when drilling in the house without the fumes and they cut fast and are light. I did consider buying the Strikelite but after using one for an outing and using the Nils for an outing my choice was easy for me.

Good Luck!

Strikemaster puts out a quality product, their customer service is 2nd to none, and they are a Minnesota company employing Minnesotans. Why someone would not buy a Minnesota product that is top notch, and instead buy from a Wisconsin or Vermont company, is beyond me.

I used my new Strike Lite just yesterday.I drilled about 20 holes without any issue, and the air temp had to be hovering just above zero all day. There was a bit of ice build up on the auger bit/cup, but the flighting didn't seem the worse for wear. The Strike Lite is amazing as far as the weight of the auger goes.It drilled holes as fast, if not faster as my older 2hp Lazer. It was nice to not have to see the black oil gunk coming out of the exhuast port.Like Borch said a few guys have told him, that auger cuts fast, and is light.Having Strikemaster 10 minutes from my house, if I would need to go there, doesn't hurt either. grin.gif

I just picked up a slightly used (1 1/2 year old) Lazer Mag with a 9 inch cut. Very fast and relatively light. Wondering if anyone has had problems with auger getting stuck right at bottom of hole? I was reopening on a few of the holes I drilled but In other new holes for my S.O.S I was popping new ones and still experianced the stuck experiance. ??? anyone?

Ok, Maybe I didn't give enough info... It is a Lazer Mag Express. 9 inch double blade. Wondering why it tends to catch or get stuck right at the bottom of ice before completing a cut. Is this an uncommon occurance? Is it the ice quality and maybe something I shouldn't worry about? I haven't been out since last Sat because of school, kids, and my masters work but I can't help but worry a tad... Any suggestions would be helpfull.

I have an electra,

It has lazer blades. It does the sam ething I just ease up on the pressure when I notice it is starting to break thru and it usually goes thru smoothly then. The same thing happens with my jiffy chipper blade. I never worried about it. Maybe I should but it's been that way for 10 years.

I usually never experience the bogging down issue. I have a 2hp strikemaster w/chipper blade. I just keep going full throttle till I get through. One thing that may help is pulling the auger up and getting the ice off of it. The extra weight in deep ice can be tuff to get through.

If all esle fails, call Strikemaster. They are very friendly adn should get you on your way in no time.

Check to make sure the screws holding the blades on are tight. If they are, the auger may be out of pitch (too agressive).....for this you will need to take it into StrikeMaster and have them put it on the jig to check.

Alright, thanks for advice. I'll try easing up on her a touch towards the end of the hole, get some of the ice off, then push through. If this doesn't work, I'll check the screws, and then call strikemaster.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
