Amsoil for ice auger?

Just gotta comment that this stuff is good.

My snow blower runs awesome this year since using it. It doesn't smoke and starts on the first pull even after sitting in the back of my truck all night while plowing. Ice auger is running great too.

I had $2,000.00 in repairs for 2 blown pistons over the the past summer running 100:1 amsoil in a 1979 100hp johnson the mechanic laughed when I told him what ratio I mixed it at and told to me to get that 100:1 amsoil out of all my engines or I will see him again very soon. if you do use it mix it at your normal ratio

I just started using it on my auger at about 80:1. No problems yet. All I can say is that the auger is running the best it ever has with no smoke. Money does not grow on trees but I have read enough posts to trust it. The only thing I have been told is not to run it in an old motor with carbon build up.

I mixed a gallon batch at 50:1 and my blower wouldn't run right...too oil rich. So i put it in the truck tank and started over with another batch at 90:1 and it runs fine now.

Saber Professional is NOT for water cooled engines! Use it only in all your air-cooled pre-mix 2-cycle engines.

For water cooled use either Saber Outboard which can be used 100-1 in stock engines, or HP Injector which can be used in all Outboard oil injection systems or pre-mix at 50-1. The AMSOIL guarantee is against lubricant failure when used according to the AMSOIL guidelines.

"Blown Pistons" are generally not a lubricant problem or failure at any mix ratio with any type of lubricant, AMSOIL, any other synthetic, or fossil based. A 'blown piston' is more indicative of a carburetion problem, however impossible to tell without evaluating the parts.

I used amsoil outboard for the outboard and used saber pro for the auger I agree its smoke free but if you mix anything 100:1 it will be almost smoke free I learned my lesson im not mixing 100:1 anymore why risk it? if your auger says 50:1 mix it 50:1

Quite a number of people use it at 50-1, not trusting to go so lean, it is always a safe way to go, especially if you are not comfortable with it.

However, once seeing how it runs, you can evaluate the mix ratio and adjust it according to your needs. If the exhaust and exhaust port are oily/slimy and the spark plug is oily damp you have more oil than you need and can go leaner. If it is dry/fluffy you are probably as lean as would be safe. Most when doing this will adjust 10% at a time until they find what is best for them.

With high performance/modified engines this is a must - start rich, evaluate for a couple of tanks before changing until you find the right mixture for your application.

Why mess with it? Stick with the oil the manufacturer recomends. I just go with the 32:1 that it says in the manual and i have had the auger for 15yrs and it still runs great. a new plug every other year and its good to go. The plug really does not need to be changed but for 1.89 why not? If it works done fix it!

I switched so I wouldn't have oil slicks, zebra stripes, sore arms from pullingpullingpulling, and burning eyes while fishing in the permanent. My auger wants 24-1 and you could see it spitting out of the exhaust the whole time and it ran like manure. Switched to Saber Pro at 80-1 and it runs like it likes it, and I like it, too for all the reasons mentioned.

I switched to amsoil saber this year and love it so far. No smoke and easier starting. It is also nice not having to have different mix ratios between the auger, chainsaw, etc. I just dump one 3.5 oz. bottle into a 2 gallon can and use it in everything.

I run Amsoil in everything from weed eaters to my 115 Yamaha 4 stroke outboard. Buy the right Amsoil product for what you will run it in and you will be glad you did.

I notice better cold starts, way less smoke and residew in my exhaust and I have found Amsoils customer service is great at answering any questions I may have.

is there any reason why I wouldn't want to use this in my single stage snow blower?

It would be the best thing you could do for your single stage blower. I would recommend starting with 80:1 for the first tank. Once the Amsoil is in the old oil residue is burned out your blower should run a little better and have a bit more power even.

There are several "Sabre" oils made by Amsoil. Sabre 100:1 is for air-cooled applications. They also have Sabre outboard which is for water cooled 2-stroke outboards. Air-cooled engines obviously run hotter than water cooled engines. Make shure you use the right oil.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
