Basic cheap digital camera

snoozebutton

Question

I'm looking for one just to take hunting and fishing without having to worry about it. It has to be durable, small enough to fit in your pocket, and inexpensive. I don't need to take movies with it and it doesn't necessarily need to have a zoom. I don't want to spend over $100 just in case I drop it in the lake or lose it.

So, does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!!!

I am still using my old Canon PowerShot S10.... wow, it is about 8 years old, and still going pretty strong. Dropped by kids, partially submerged, dents in the metal casing. The screen on back doesn't work anymore, after the dunking wink.gif but it still takes really good pictures. It is bulky by todays standards.

I even had to piece the shudder cover back together after a grandson gave it a good toss wink.gif but it went back together good.

But I guess that makes Canon a top recommendation by me. Look for a camera with a metal case, not plastic, for durability.

Lots of nice ones out there now, in the $150-$200 range, and the $100-$150 range seem to be plastic. I would recommend finding one with a good rechargeable battery, and get your self an extra battery and nice but small case for it.

good luck! I might have to pop for one again next year. Most likely a Canon, but heard good things about Kodak products as well.

Get a Nikon Coolpix L11. It's 6.0 MP, small and takes fairly decent photos for what it is. I got one a couple months ago for $120, but they have dropped the price to around $99 I think. You'll need an SD card as well. A 1GB will cost you about 20 bucks.

I don't like the Kodaks or HPs. IMO, they take inferior quality pictures and lack a lot of features compared to other manufactures. Nikon or Canon would be my first choices.

The Nikon is exactly what I bought to keep in the truck for pictures of property damage that's been done by others, so I don't get blamed.

Takes perfect pictures. I also made sure to get one that operates on AA batteries, so I don't have to worry about keeping it on a charger, or have one with me. If the batteries die, I just go get 2 new ones.

Today Kohls has some special with cameras at $ 89 or less, check it out.

You don't need a high pixel count, a 4mp is plenty enough to take good pics, but I would get a zoom especially if you are outdoor, the deer at 50 yards will look like a small d ot in the forest if you don't zoom in.

Instead of buying a cheap camera I would take the advise of thoses above and search out a good camera at a good price. You WILL be disapointed in the pictures you get from a cheap camera. And I assume you are going to use this camera for taking fishing, hunting etc. pictures and that means all different light and weather conditions so you want a camera that can adjust to this and still take a good pic. A great pic. of that 32" walleye, priceless. Bad pic. of that same 32" walleye, heartbreaking.
