How many lakes do you fish during the year

I have had a house up on Mille Lacs for the past four years and feel that that has kept me from exploring new waters. I am going to make it a point this year not to limit myself to the same ten or so lakes that I seem to hit every year. My question is, how many lakes would you guys say you hit on average during the ice season?

1, 2, 3.... I think I hit about 14 different lakes regularly. It's too boring hitting the same bodies of water all the time. Each year I try to add a few new ones to my "hit" list.

That sounds about right for me too. Gotta mix it up and hit a new one each year. I like to fill up the waypoints on the old GPS....and I do mean old!

I have been spoiled on Mille Lacs the last couple of years so its hard to get off of there especially since I am so close, about a half hour drive. With that said I only hit about 3 to 4 lakes a year. Maybe I will try more this season.

As many as possible, there are many days I can remember hitting two or three lakes in a day. Lakes I always hit during hardwater are Mille Lacs, Chisago, S. Center, White Bear, Bald Eagle, W. Rush, Peltier, Centerville, Coon and there are others but they are smaller bodies of water so I wont name them. I have a couple new ones on the hit list for this hardwater season that look very promising. Can't wait to get out and give them a shot.

If you've got a lake like Mille Lacs close enough to fish regularly, and it's producing fish everytime you go out why worry about trying to hit a bunch of other lakes? I could see maybe going to a few other lakes durring the season, but can't see them producing a final product any better then Mill Lacs. At least from what I read in mags and other articles Mill Lacs sounds like it's one of the best lakes for a north american fisherman, so why try to top it or out do it. I'd Love to have a lake like that close enough to me knowing that I had a good chance at a trophy fish every time I went out. Just my thoughs, you guys from Minnesota just got it too gooood when it comes to lakes. Your problem would be a nice one to have though.

I typically fish 1-2 different lakes every weekend, 1-3 per week, and over the course of the season prolly hit a total of 30-50 different lakes. I have a couple mainstays, go to lakes when I just absolutely need some solid fish, but really love exploring and trying new lakes.

5-10 probably in an average winter, sometimes a few more. If I get on fish I'd just as soon stay on them. Some of the lakes around are big enough that the next outing is just on the same lake in a different spot.

Grand total, it would be over 30 this season. Lots of them are smaller reservoirs and gravel pits, but many of them are lakes too. Also, I hit several different places on the Miss River, backwaters, Pepin, marinas, etc. I always throw a couple trips to SoDak in, and I fish some tourneys like the Brainerd Ice Extravaganza each year.

November, and my ice season plans are gettin busy!!!

Jan- Otter run on Francis, Sarah Saturday on Sarah, Weekend on URL in a Kelly P rental. Of course there will be fishing on my local lakes.

February- Weekend with Paul W at Appledorns in a sleeper, Slabfest on URL, and the local action.

March- Hopefully a URL trip and much local fishing.

My goal for the season is 30 lakes, and more importantly 4 FM get togethers!!! smile.gif Ice is nice.

I'd say on average im on about 15-20 different lakes in three different states throughout the season. Most i'll only see once or twice and others i'll see time and time again. Of course I don't get out as much as I did in my tech school days but who would want to fish 49 days in a row anyways?

So don't let it. grin.gif I know thats a smart alec answer, but there are ways to have your cake and eat it, too. It boils down to planning. There's some good lakes within a half hour of Mille Lacs to explore, bring your portable to the pond and leave to go scouting during a day every other weekend. Its a heckuva base camp to come back to for night bite!

And there's evenings during the week, if you are a weekender on ML. Especially during early ice, I will go fish a local wright county lake for a couple hours in the eve after work - I make sure I have all my gear ready to go the night before, bring my bait pail with me to work so I can get bait on the way home.

I have to agree somewhat with Agronomist, tho, too - if Mille Lacs brings joy, why mess with success? grin.gif Last year was the first year for me with a perm on the pond and I was up there many weekends to the destruction of most of my local lake routines. I have no regrets. grin.gif

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
