Minority or majority?

I fish for many reasons. Keeping fish to eat isnt the #1 reason but I have no problem keeping fish every once in a while to eat. Nobody should be looked down on for keeping and eating fish. Unless they are keeping too big of fish and too many. No sense in a single guy keeping limits of walleye daily for weeks to let them get freezer burned.

Why does one have to choose?

Just because you like to eat fish doesn't make you a criminal. I love fish! But just because I primarily C&R my fish doesn't make me a bad guy either.

Get out. Fish. Have fun! Keep a few of appropriate size for dinner and tomorrow's breakfast. Repeat. smile.gif

I agree, why do I have to choose????

I firmly believe in selective harvest. I select to harvest and eat a lot of fish. Egg layers go back into the water. Lots of fish come home with me. (When I can catch em) My family eats a LOT of fish, tho. Not only is it good for you, it's yummy. grin.gif

All of the above? Fishing for me is #1 social, times with great friends, #2 solitude, time alone, mental refreshment, last would be a great meal. Don't get me wrong, I love fish, and nothing is better than one right out of the water and into the fry pan. I also like stashing a few in the freezer for a meal down the road when I'm to busy to fish.

Ok so it looks like I am the minority so far. I throw back 99.9% of my fish. I love to fish and then throw back so that me and others may catch again. Dont get me wrong fresh fish is awsome, but the catch is where it is at.

I don't eat a single fish that I catch but only because I just don't like fish. It's a curse. I wish I liked it but I don't. I will however keep some fish to use for barganing. wink.gif I see nothing wrong with keeping them except for walleyes over 19" and under 13" but if you are hungry your hungry I guess. And I don't see why anyone would want to eat a musky, that is common sence to must of use here but some people actually eat them, I can't imagine that they would taste very good. Oh and my wifes family eats Bass (little guys)!!! But thats all that they can catch in there lake. drives me nuts.

I fish to catch fish!

My approach is anything but relaxing. I'm pretty intense when fishing although when I'm done I feel much more relaxed. wink.gif

I do bring fish home for the frying pan as they taste sooooo good. laugh.gif

I eat more fish in winter, especially deep water perch that have air sacks exploded and will die anyway. I keep all sizes of those. I think I will try to eat a northern this year since I never have. I am not sure why but I always seem to think of fishing as learning a survival skill and part of that learning is knowing how to convert various species of fish into meals. I have a garden and if I ever make any money I will buy land and do some hunting. I relate this to fixing and building things too; all things to make me more self sufficient. I consider it a tribute to the past if nothing else.

I just love to get out and fish. Probably catch and eat most of them but if I've got a good supply at home I'll release them unless their injured. Its the relaxing experience for me and if I get skunked, I don't care.

I fish because it takes your mind off of the hassles of everyday life. Ever watch the news lately? It is all bad news until the last 2 minutes of the show when they talk about something good that happened. I fish to get away from it all! grin.gif

Since musky are fairly closely related to Northerns, why would anyone suspect that they would taste significantly different?

And I must say . . . If it were based solely on taste, I'd much rather eat something that tastes like Northern than something that tastes like Bass.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
