Kyle
Are there actually a good number of people that raise these cats? I have heard of people raising wolves, but how would someone actually go about getting one of these cats? Crazy stuff! Its amazing what some people will do. big drift
Not as common now as it was 15-20 years ago, but it does happen.
Johnny_Namakan
I hate to break it to the none-believers but my brother, myself and two othres in the car saw a mountain lion cross Highway 53 just north of Cook a few years back. If you've ever seen one in real life then you'll know why you can'tr mistake it for a bobcat or a house cat,(LMAO). They are very large animals. It took two leaps to cross the highway and all of us had our jaws drop. We all saw it and couldn't believe it. The local DNR has siad that there is a mating pair up here. The wife of a coworker here at work saw one last year cross the highway by wakem-up village on Lake Vermilion. As far as the person mentioning that with all the cameras in the woods how come only one picture? Same goes with Timberwolves. We have tons of wolves in our area. Had a wolf kill happen this past weekend about a mile from our shack. their tracks went right over our tracks from the day before. We've had cameras in the woods for years now, and never a picture of one. Think about it. The camera is stationary with a range of a few yards. Think about how much woods are around. You could have 500 cameras in an 80 acre parcel and still not get a picture. Just too much woods to cover. All I can say is , we used to think the world was flat too! Hmmm, wonder if we were wrong? Shack
Someone had one in a cage outside their home for years in Elk River, on the south side of Lake Orano (by new police deptment).
Nate McVey
Most of the time, the domestic "pets" have the canine teeth and claws removed. That would sure limit their ability to hunt their "normal" food.

monstermoose78
While attend VCC in ely we did scent post surveys and groups along the gunflint trail had cougar tracks as did some that went up the Echo Trail. I also saw one off of the echo trail while grouse hunting it was within 40 yards of me. Lynx are not seen by most people either so they are here either. 1runhotshot
A co-worker saw a lion this weekend around the Motley area while putting up deer stands. 40 yards away. "No mistaking it". He also saw it in the same area in July
Hammer Handle
All types of wild cats, including mountain lions, were plentiful at one time in MN. Much of their habitat was destroyed and they were hunted out, but are starting to make a comeback...just like many other species.
Weed Shark
Maybe 15 years ago, I heard authorities verified a cougar killed Canadian goose, in a culvert, in Plymouth, near where I grew up.Two years ago, the DNR (skeptical when first telephoned) verified a cougar killed a raccoon in a tree, two houses down from my folks in Plymouth.I heard a rumor of a deer carcass in a tree in Maple Grove. My hunting buddy was driving in northwest Plymouth; at first glance he thought he saw a deer running across a field, but then realized it had a long tail and was a cougar.I talked to a guy in Royalton, two years ago, who had his archery deer target attacked. The cougar knocked the target's head off and dragged it a short distance.
WollMan
OK, family has a place outside of Babbitt. About 15+ years ago our neighbor claims to have seen one on the shore of Birch Lake. My Grandfather, while deer hunting saw some very, very large cat tracks in the snow, and his only explaination was that it was a cougar, infact the same neighbor who also used to do a lot of trapping verified this. I personally have never seen one, but do believe that they live in MN, kinda scary. The only reason that people see wolves is that there are more wolves, and they are vocal so you can hear them. Not to get off subject but my dad saw a Candian Lynx either last year or the year before while hunting south of Ely. They are not supposed to be here either, but they are."Cougar's" are sweet anyways, nothing better than a very hot late 30's early 40's woman, on the hunt. Bassboy1645
WHat about that attack in ely a few yrs ago when several sources confirmed that a cougar had killed a couple horses?? Back home in kato, mt lions have been sighted in the whole mn river valley from the cities down to kato...Why not??! deer, rabbits, plenty of food, Rollign hardwoods forests and limestone bluffs... If I see a bigfoot im pulling the trigger... So be careful if you dress up like one and try to walk in front of ur buddies trailcams makes a good prank! Hammer Handle
Did you know that a cougar, mountain lion, puma, panther, and painter are all the same animal?? Just thought I would throw that in.... However, a panther can also mean a black jaguar.
finnbay
Oh! What part of Birch Lake? I live there and better get the dogs inside tonight! We've been discussing this topic at work the last few days (unaware that this thread was going on) and 2 co-workers (including one biologist) have sighted cougars in the last couple of years. I have hunted northern Minnesota since 1964 and have never seen a cougar, but did see some 8" pugs in fresh snow on the Holstrum spur north of Effie in the late 1970's. fishermn
Hey, just remember to positively ID it as a bigfoot first, I resemble that remark, or so my kids tell me As for cougars, who doesnt like a mid forties age woman on the prowl
gonefishin11
I saw 4 or 5 cougars last weekend in downtown Minneapolis. They traveled in a group, loved their booze and asked my buddies and me to dance...
Heartman
Wolf pics on trailcam? You bet...I've a good friend who has a deer camp up CTY 4 a ways north of Duluth. Late this summer, he checked his trail cam - he had a single picture with 6 timber wolves on his chip. I saw it with my own eyes - just amazing. They were probably 50 feet from the camera - maybe closer - but there was no mistaking it. Beautiful animals...I like them with a bit more color though

wh1stler
I've got a picture of a T-wolf peeing on a mineral block I set out. Until the next rainstorm the deer refused to lick on it. What a jerk!Wh1stler
