Best rod case

I don't want a golf bag style rod case since all my gear will be in a sled. Otter's rod case looks decent but I think I heard it is better for two rather than four rods. Who else makes them for ice rods and what has been good for you? I want to be able to carry at least three at a time.

There was a great thread on here last year. A lot people like the hard cases. I have a couple soft cases from Croxton Pond, and I plan to buy a couple more. They have nice straps that I've used as a back pack style when hiking into lakes on BWCA or slipping the straps over my snowmobile seat when cruising around the lake. The key isn't to overload your holder. Early on I put to many in one compartment, and they'll break. I like to have a lot of bags, and break them down by size, line weight, and style.

I really like the Ready Rig. They are an FM sponsor and their soft sided cases are really nice. If you plan on going all out, I've heard nothing but good things about the Stone Legacy case. That may be the way to go for you; you can get just about everything in one of those.

I also own Beckman, Guide Series, and Croixton Pond soft bags.

I believe everything listed will also hold at least three rods, and have nice carry straps. I like to use that strap to tie the rod bag to my portable poles. Then I can keep one less thing out of the way. Lots of my pictures of me holding fish from the last couple years has my rod bags hanging up in the background.

I have my rods separated by rod action/line weight. I would recommend some today's tackle pouches to cover the hooks and keep the rods from hooking into each other during movement.

Good luck with your purchase!

Hi, I bought a hard case that was inteneded to put arrows in. I just took some of the foam out and I can store 4 of my best rods in there. The foam keeps them in place and the rods will never get crushed. It is also easy to bungie to a sled, otter, or right to your backpack. There is also room left in there for a small box of tackle if your just going out on a quick trip and don't want to carry all your stuff. And finally there is a place to put a padlock on the handle, if your like me you probably have a few hundered $$ tied up in a couple of your best rods. Probabaly wouldn't stop a thief but it will keep your buddy's mits off your stuff!! grin.gif

With all the rod cases that have come and gone on the market, I still use my Stone Legacy Revolution day in and out. Its a decent size bag, not too big, not too small. It offers hard sided protection in a soft bag. I typically store 6 rods in the bag, 3 into each end. The front pocket is perfect for my Little Dipper scoop, Stabilicers ice cleats, and Ice Well which always stay in that compartment.

I'm not sure how many years I've had my Revolution now but I've never damaged any of my Thorne rods in it and thats what counts!

I bought an HT Fishing bag last year, thing was cheap at Sportsmens Warehouse and is very light. I think it cost like $10. Only thing- if you keep your jigs on your rods, use tackle pouches, otherwise your hooks will snag into the inside of the bag-

I still like my Stone Legacy Revolution and Premium Ice Rod cases. The Premium Ice Rod cases are great for storing a couple rods and a few small tackle boxes. Put a couple finesse sticks and a box of plastics and away we go! smile.gif

I have had the case with they tubes and the worked great, but it was a bugger to get rods and reels in them without having to break rods and reels down a little! Last year I purchased a roll up type rod holder. I liked it, because no break down of rods (slip in and velcro rods down). It stores all my line, snips and other stuff. I roll up and throw in back of my otter. I also have found when fishing I can slip it in between canvas and structure polls of my otter and every thing is right there! Tubes are nice for carrying 2-3 rods, but when one carries 3-6 rods, the roll up one is nice! Plus hooks do not get snagged.

The only down side is my tip on my long ultra sensi rods hangs out at end (did not break during last years season). But this is not a major issue, because my tube/bag style would not even hold this rod. I would have had to found a longer one!

I just got some better images of my rod case! It is an HT-tech fishing tip-up/ice rod carrying tote. If I remember correct, it was like only $7-$8 or maybe $10-11. It also holds 6-7 rods with reels and no break down B.S. of reel handles! Here ya go!

Like I said, I can slide it right behind the support rails on my otter! I have everything right at my fingure tips! when i am packing up, throw it behind seats in Otter and away we go!

Note: for all you new otter owners! The jacket hanging hook in back ground! Best purchase I made last year!

I would still like to see a pic or image of the Stone Legacy Revolution! I have never seen it before!

I have had croxton, a revolution, and the ready rig pack. I like the ready rig and revolution the best. I have broken rods with both but still think they are the best. Most of the rod breakage came from over loading the bags and having too many rods in them at the same time. So know I usually use my revolution and the ready rig tackle bag. Then the pack of my ready rig holds all my extra rods. The new Marcum bag looks very interesting and looks to be good as well.

Hard to believe but this is the 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY for ReadyRig ice fishing products. It all started way back in 1997 when a the world's leading and premier ice rod manufacturer located in Fridley, MN wanted a ice rod case developed to help protect their great graphite ice rods. ReadyRig just happened to be there to answer the call with the original Ice Professional 34" case.

Things have changed quite a bit since then as ReadyRig has added the Ice Professional Plus, IcePack, Triad, Tip-up Tube Case, Round Tip-up Case, Full Length Auger Case, and Power Head Covers.

I tip my cap to all those who have the vision, courage, saavy, and problem solving ability necessary to develop and bring new items to market.

Lots of good stuff out there now from a lot of good folks. Just make sure the case or system you select matches your particular fishing style and application.

I have 2 stone legacy Revolutions.. I really like them. I also have a couple of the redy rig 3 rod holders.. They arent bad, they dont protect your rod like the rev does unless you make some changes to it. I am seriously looking at the new MarCum case, that thing looks sweet!

I bought the Ready Rig Ice Pack and have been fighting that thing ever since. If you put more than one rod in each section then they get tangled. Maybe Harvey's idea would help. I have a buddy with the Revolution and he sure seems to not have these problems. I was looking at getting a Revolution, but then I noticed the Jr's Artic Ice Rod case in Cablea's catalog. Has anyone tried this? It says that it will hold 8 rods. I would guess that means it has 4 compartments, which is what I need for my 4 rods. The Ready Rig only had three,s o I was doubling up on one of the compartments. Any thought would be appreciated. This has been so frustrating trying to find something.

Harvy, do you have some pics of those tubes that you used/made?

What was the one of the first rod holder cases on the market! It had wool inside and a tube and could hold 2-3 rods! It was black! I used one of these for 2-3 years and battery acid from a leaky battery got all over it and rendered it useless! I think it was a Ready Rig? I paid good money for it, but had to break reel handles down, when I packed up!

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
