Lets Talk Topwater Slop

I also use the bronze eye. This season was the first time i actually had gear strong enough to withstand the pads and scum. I was a little hesitant at first to try them, now after fishing them regularily, I almost do not leave a lake without heading to some pads or scum.

Also, they are great to us just past the pads or in shallow water with emerging veg. using walk-the-dog technique. I have found that the bronze eye are pretty well balanced for this technique.

Spro's are sweet. Has anyone noticed that those tourney frogs (same maker as the scum frog, and grass rat) used to have thicker plastic then one year they went cheap and it was paper thin. What the... That was about 3-4 years ago. I loved them until they went cheap on the thickness. Now I get spros, but for 8 bucks! Then a 3lb pike takes it frown.gif

I have never used anything like a scumfrog before, but after all the hoopla on this link about the Sprofrog, I went out and got a one and went to my favorite bassin' lake...must have caught at least a dozen bass on the thing!

I really dont think color is important when it comes to topwater. I think the color is usually washed out by the sky or you are fishing it above so much slop that all they see is an outline anyway... I fish with white becuause then I can see when its gone.

I dont think the color matters because,

1. its on pads alot, they dont have xray vision.

2. a frogs belly is white, when you look up, you see white, its a natural disguise

3. Bass will rely on the vibrations more, they cant tell thing s apart from eachother like humans

The thing is that colors can e transmitted, so on sunny days days on clear water situation, go natural. If its dark water, you may want to make your bait more visible and put on a dark color underbelly, i cannot not vouch for this because ive never fished murky water.

Well, i see you points about color not matter but i think the color of the bottom of the lure does matter sometimes. If you are fishing in bright sunny skis the color really won’t matter because it will be a black shadow under the bait. But when it’s cloudy or rain out, I think some times a bright bottom color lure will help get some reaction strikes and help the fish find the bait better. smirk.gif
