Which All terrain Tire?

Dragonfisherman

Question

I need a new set of digs on my truck and was wondering what I should get as I don't really have the money to put the tires i want on which are BF Goodriches. I need some advice for a cheaper set. These tires will be seeing a lot of ice fishing and hunting. Thanks

Frankly I don't exactly trust anything made by Firestone anymore....but thats personal preference. I would recommend the Goodyear SilentArmor. You can get them as a AT tire and they do very well. Last time I looked for someone they were almost $50 a tire cheaper than BFG's or Revo's.

I'm guessing you really want BFGoodrich All-Terrain KOs.

I love those tires!

I'm going to double check my records tonight but I've got to be close to 80,000 miles on my All-Terrains now. No flats, no problems, and still great traction. Love 'em!

I like BF and have had three sets all of them have gotten better than 50000. The last set was the worst but it was also on my 3/4 diesel. The first two sets went well over 60000 and never a flat. I did switch to a set of Cooper Discovery STT they are a bad a$$ looking tire with awesome traction and were cheaper by about 15 a tire where I got them. The only problem I see is if I get it stuck now it will probably take a D6 cat to get me out. They do howel on the highway. But with my truck I don't really hear it. Also I didn't have a BF dealer in my town so switched to a brand the local dealer had to take advantage of free balancing and rotation. Goodyear Silent armors are another nice looking tire that I looked at. Some people think BF had a lot of road noise but I never thought that they did I though they were pretty quiet. I figured since I burn a set of tires up a year with all my driving I could try a different brand out and see how they work. That way if they don't work for me I can always go back to BF because I knew they preformed well.

Gunflint, the dueler revo's are actually a bridgestone tire, not BFG.

Dragon, I picked up a set of revo's for my GMC 3/4 ton last january & have about 25,000 on them with very little wear. The traction has been very good in the snow thus far as the tires are siped which really helps the snow clear out. my set of 4 mounted, balanced & a full alignment was under $800.

I just put the Revo's on my truck yesterday...after shopping around, I found that most places (even with the same company but a different store) have quite a bit of wiggle room on their price. I was able to get them to knock off $260 from their initial quote, which was $1075. Paid $813 out the door for 275/65 R18's. I only have 50 miles on them, but was very pleased with the ride, very quiet on the highway, yet the tread seems agressive enough for most of my ice fishing excursions/adventures.

Go onto the HSOforum for Discount Tire. You will find detail info on several brands and models of tires using the year and make of your vehicle. They will also tell you what +/- sizes will fit your vehicle. You can read customer reviews on each tire but keep in mind someone in Georgia will not be using a particular tire in the same conditions as in MN.

My mistake. Duelers are Bridgestone not BFG's. I know that the duelers are a top choice all terrain tire for a lot of off roaders but they are a little spendy. I got a set of Wranglers on our new Jeep and I'll be pulling them off next summer no matter how many miles are on them. The only negative on the vehicle was that it came with Wranglers.

I shopped around for my truck, and if I wanted an aggressive tire of any kind I was going to spend a lot of money, regardless of brand.

Firestones and Good Year (Wrangler primarily) were out. I really wanted to get the BFG AT/KO, so I did. I found a company on the web and got them $300 cheaper than any dealer quote...and free shipping. Type the words discount tire direct and you can compare for yourself. wink.gif

I would strongly recommed at least checking out cooper discoverer S/T's. After talking to a couple guys who had them, one with 30,000 and one with close to 40,000 miles, the tires still had ALOT of their tread left. So I bought a set and since we've had snow I've been very pleased with them. Steep driveways and boat landings they just keep grabbing and will climb right up in 2wd with no weight in the back (chev 1500). I got the set mounted and balanced in the falls for around $550.
