Fishing Logs

I just write in MS Word.. with dates.. and add to the writing each year.. and keep track of catches on the GPS color coded for species.. also GPS logs the date caught so I can filter out everything BUT the week I'm out to see past successes. BUT.. the danger here is getting stuck in a rut.. so I make sure to always try new areas and techniques.

Slick,

Please send a copy over if you have time. Thanks, Dan

I've kept a written fishing journal since 1990. I log the time of day, weather, location, lure/bait, size and type of fish, kept or c&r, who I was fishing with and who caught the fish. I also like logging interesting tidbits like "saw a bear on the shore" or "Fred snagged a sucker by the tail and thought he had his 10 pounder" ect. This makes it not only educational to go back and read the journal but also fun.

Ok.. a bunch more going out in an hour or so...

To those of you with either MSN or Hotmail emails... it will most likely say that there is/are viruses with these sheets.... apparently microsoft's email doesn't like when there are Macros on an Excel sheet. I guarantee that there are NO viruses!!!!!!! I PROMISE!!!! If that was even a remote possibility, I wouldn't send them out!

Special K - give me your email..or email me... [email protected] I'll send you copies of both... I'd like to see what it looks like in Access....

Sent them to Special K and LaZyDayZ...

Lazy - if you want to host them, go for it!!!! grin.giflaugh.gifcool.gif I'd appreciate the help, to be honest!! Amazes me how many people have wanted this thing... also makes me feel good that other fishermen can use it! cool.gif

Any more input from anyone is always welcome - It's been suggestions from fellow FM'ers that has made this thing better and better over time. grin.gif

I use my Lowrance IFinder as a log. I set a way point at hot spots. There I have a log. Later I can edit the names of the good ones. Iceeyes. Bass71-15 and so on. The Bass71-15 is for bass July 1st-15th. All you have to do is push a button twice!

Limitout -

I've added the baro to the updated version... check out LazyDayz's link, it should be up there once he gets a chance to get it on there.

Speaking of an updated version.... I redid almost the whole thing last night.... removed a couple of dropdowns, added more fish species, added baro. pressure and moon phase, made extra room to make entries, etc.... It's also a LOT smaller file... after eliminating the Macros, it dropped a bunch in size, so the download time is a lot shorter... grin.gif

I'm sending it to LaZydayZ right now, hopefully he'll be able to get the new version linked as fast as he did the older version!

Well, how about one more spot for "Notes"... you can put your partner(s), fishing pressure, etc. in that one... I'll make it a bunch longer than the other cells...

As far as things tried, that's kind of what the technique box is for. Maybe make that longer?

That's a "slick" set up, thank you!

I would like to see the one for Ice fishing too please. tony dot boshold at sbcglobal dot net

The only thing I'd like is a larger note field.

I use mine on the water in a ziploc with a pen. I take a break inbetween spots and write notes for a few minutes at a time through out the day. Each lake gets a seperate page and is kept in a file of maps and logs. Nothing kept on the computer itself. This will be a nice change.

I really don't like keeping a clock while I'm fishing but I have a time piece on the fish finder to note when things are happening or not.

I have a question for you, what do you folks use to track the barometer while fishing or do you check it before and after?

Thanks again.

Thank you Slick and LaZyDays.

At work we use "waterproof" paper to record our field notes. You can get standard 8 1/12" X 11" sheets or bound log books made with water proof paper. The sheets can be run through a laser or ink jet printer so you could print sheets to match Slick's database.

I think the waterproof paper is available at places like Forestry Suppliers or Gemplers.

TJFisher - you should have both in your in box -

As far as the Baro, I usually just go to one of the multiple weather websites for it... weather underground is my personal favorite...
