So about two weeks ago my wife hosts this party with all of her friends. Well it turns out to be one of these "jewelry" parties. A bunch of girls come over and the party is hosted by my wife and a represenative from the jewelry company. They eat apps, drink wine and look at and pick out jewelry for eachother. So she has about 10 gals there and on the average they spend about $100.00 each. In return for hosting the part my wife gets compensated in free jewelry (about $300.00) worth.--Pretty good deal for her--. Can you se where I am going with this yet??? Over the course of about 4 months my wife has hosted her own party, and been to about 3 others. Not always Jewelry. Sometimes it is "nick nack" dump and cooking supplies etc... So I got to thinking wouldn't this be a great idea for tackle and gear. You find a rep from a tackle company and set up one of these parties for all of your fishing buddies. Instead of wine and cheese we gordge ourselves with beer, brats and chips and look at and discuss tackle with the rep and others at the party. Then your buddies host another party down the road etc.... You could have different reps come to the different parties once every three months or so, that way you are not seeing the same tackle and gear at each one. Then depending on the amount of sales at each party the host gets a certain amount in free tackle. Just a thought and something I have been tossing around. I spend enough on fishing as it is, but I am a bit tired of all the new jewelry, nick nacks, soup bowls, candle holders etc.... that keeps coming home from these parties (with the only rationale for bying it in the first place was because "it was such a great deal, and the party was fun"). Do I sound bitter??? Because I am really not, she deserves to have these parties grin.gif. But I just think it may be a neat concept with fishing. What do you think??? And anybody else have a wife going to these things??

My girl and her "perverted" friends have these little girly getogethers that they call "toy" parties. She always comes home with catalogues and samples of all the B.S.

The best method, just nod and smile, pretend that you care. grin.gif

In the early eighties there was a thing like that going around for fishing equiptment. I hosted a couple deals like that .... like you said we all sat around and drank beer, talked fishing and purchased gear. It was kinda cool. I cant remember what the name of the out fit was that organized the deal.

Sure little man parties for fishing tackle I get it!!

Um not really. Most I think are very protective of what they use for lures and well I think you should just have a big barbecue with fishing guys.

Maybe bring a rep in to demo new products.

Hey maybe pyramid fishing products like AMWAY for the fishingworld.

Could get Matt Johnson and Dietz to Host!! grin.gif

I like they whole toy party idea but I have also been part of the candles, baskets, gourmet foods, avon.......: I also like the idea of a tackle party and almost went to that venue myself a couple of years ago. My version though was just a bunch of guys looking to upgrade tackle, ect but sharing the shipping costs. I had access to a couple of wholesaler catalogs and thought, why should I be the only one to benefit. Here is the problem with the wholesale catalogs. Tackle that is sold to independent bait shops is more expensive to the small mom and pop shops then when a local big box has a low price sale. I could buy the lures cheaper through the big box retailers when they had the sales then I could through the tackle wholesaler selling to the local bait shops. The upside, I was able to buy some of the real high buck ticket items, "where the local shops make their margin" for about 1/2 price. I watched a local baitshop go out of business 2 times in three years after a large big box store moved in. Why? When you buy in huge volume you can negotiate prices and often sell cheaper then the little mom and pop down the street. I missed that local bait store and I was partly to blame for its demise. Let the girls have those parties, we can bbq, have a cool one and talk fishing and have just as much fun or more! Be careful for what you wish for as the little bait store that is close to the lake and conviently located and open really early, late and on some holidays might just be replaced by the big box store without the location and convienience but all of the big sales. I prefer to have the little guy with the knowledge and convienience vs. the 16 y.o. with a vest trying to tell me about the latest new bait, or waitng for him to finish talking about last nights escapades before I can get my bait, lures ect. A cool idea nonetheless, It may very well affect the tackle guys that are here on this site and working hard to promo the items they have. Just a few rambling thoughts from my perspective. Tightline everyone!

I just want an reason and an excuse to by more tackle grin.gif I thought this might go over a little bit better than explaining receipts to my wife after the fact. "Honey, I really NEEDED the Double Twisting Blade Spinning Water Walker, I cannot catch fish without it." I am not looking to start a home business or anything. It just seems like everything sold at these parties is automatically forgiven and forgotten. It's like these ladies step into the bermuda triangle of shopping at these things. Women!! I think they found a loophole boys!!! And I want one!!!

It doesn't stop at these party's either. Believe me it goes all the way from pursue's to shoes to new clothes! I just turn my check and the next time I'm on the water, I'm happy to tell her I was catching lots of fish with my new rod/reel combo! grin.gif

We had a fishing group with about 10 guys in it and we would get together every month at a different members house. The host would supply the beer and food. The rest would throw in $10 a month for dues and then when winter came we would take a trip up to LOW or Mille Lacs ice fishing and use the dues for beer. It was a great excuse to go out and we had a lot of fun. smile.gif It came to an end after about 12 years when myself and one or two others were the only ones hosting the monthly get togethers and we had a real hard time getting the group all together for the trip. frown.gif
