Tonneau Covers

Eckie

Question

I'm looking into a tonneau cover for my F150 vs. a topper because I like the versatility of rolling it up out of the way when I need to throw the 4 wheeler in..I've done research on Access, Truxedo, Extang, Lund, etc. The Access covers seem well built(with the tubular bars attached to the cover), durable and fairly easy to install.

Anyone have comments to share? Pro's / Con's...

Thanks.

Just what I needed to know .. and also confirmed that Access is the way to go. Is their a big difference between the LiteRider and the Lorado??

One other question Dave...know of any local shops that sell them them? I see one guy picked got a decent deal on hsolist.

I'm sure you can google search for its HSOforum and find out the difference in models. I think it's just the angle of the rails for a lower look. And, I don't live in Bemidgi so, I don't know of any local deals to be had. I saw sales around the Metro area for $400 installed.

Deal or No Deal? wink.gif (I had to do that grin.gif) I don't know.

Just bought and installed an Access Tonneau cover on my Ford F-150 Supercrew 3 weeks ago. Simple to install. Takes about 1/2 an hour, and I am not that mechanically inclined. Very happy with the purchase.

Yeah...the tonneau is the way to go. I have the Access Truxedo Lo Pro. BEst money I have ever spent on the truck. Looks good, easy to roll and unroll, and covers my gear. Love it. If you do not get truxedo, whatever you get, make sure it is velcro and not snaps. Also, if you get Truxedo LoPro, anything for less than USD400 installed is a good deal.

I must be the only one that prefers the snaps! I just installed an Extang Fulltilt on the Tundra last night, took about an hour. The whole thing flips up like a fiberglass cover but you can still unsnap and roll it up if needed, or in about 30 seconds the frame and cover come off in one piece!

Snaps suck!!

I had a Lund cover with snaps on my previous truck. It may have been a problem with the tonneau material itself but I could not take the cover off in the winter. If I did, forget about putting it back on until it warmed up outside. The cover shrunk up a bit and no matter how hard you tried, you couldn't get it stretched right to fasten the snaps. That cover also had permanent bows that had to be individually removed if you wanted to put something big in the box.

The good thing is, you will never have any problems like that with an Access Cover. Get an Access and don't look back. Installation is very simple as well.

Radco & Waldoch Truck Accessories carry them in the cities I believe.

Another place to try is Custom Truck Accessories in Ham Lake. Also, I know most dealer carry tops for their specific brand of trucks. Not sure where the best price is. I bought mine from a guy who was trading his truck in and only paid $100.00. Also look on Summits HSOforum and maybe even Jegs.

I've had a Truxedo tonneau cover on my F150 for almost five years, I've never had a problem with it and it still looks like new. I roll it back and load the bed with tree branches and brush. With prior PU's with toppers I'd risk poking out windows and screens unless I took the topper off. The topper would also limit the load size. The trade off with a tonneau cover is the cargo height is limited if you want it covered. I'm very happy with it.

I've also got a truxedo low pro and am glad that I got it. The only thing I don't like is that my Polar 3 person Ice shack doesn't fit underneath. I put on a locking tailgate handle and leave my ice fishing stuff in there all the time. Bowhunting stuff, put it in a rubbermaid and you're good to go all season.

One thing to note is that a small amount of water or dust will still get in the bed of the truck, so they are not completely sealed with a tonneau. But it sure beats the alternative to everything being wet or covered with snow. Yep I'm keeping my tonneau.

Access Cover is by far the best. I have had mine for three years on my 04 F150 Lariat SuperCrew and I have never had an issue. Have it zipped/un several times a year hauling wood, velcro is still as good as new. I got it from Radco, had them install it.

Thanks guys...truly appreciate all the input. This site is much better than any "review" HSOforum. I'm off to buy an Access...

Quick follow up question....in checking around for Access covers...I'm having a little trouble determining the difference between the Access Lorado and the Access Literider, other than the price...any of you have either of these and know which, if either, is better??

Don't know if you are set on a soft cover. I have been considering a hard cover that can be opened in sections from a place in Crookston called Peragon.

I also have an Access on my '97 dakota. I did have a problem with the velcro but they replaced it for free even though the cover was way out of warranty. If I wanted another toneau cover my choice would be easy...Access even if they cost a little more.

I do NOT like the "look" of Truxedo covers on a pickup. I don't know about you guys but I work as a design professional, a.k.a. Architect, with a good amount of art training in college as well. The angled sides of the Access Covers look a lot better vs. the square edge of the Truxedo covers. As far as function goes, they are probably on par but one cover does it while looking a whole lot nicer as well.
