H2Oc question

I just recieved my H2O color and have the Minnesota Lake Master chip in it. I drove down the highway and found the cursor arrow to be running parallel to the highway (approximately 20 yards off the road). Is this normal? Once in a while the cursor arrow would be right on top of the highway. Let me know, Bruce Mosher

I've seen that happen on my H2O for some roads as well. I think it's normal. Some roads just seem to be off a little. But I could be wrong and we both could have faulty units. Anyone else have any insight?

Your units are fine and that chip is awesome the road mapping is Mapcreate software and it does not get any better.

Yes some of the roads are little off but most are spot on, Matt is right if you zoom out it will help.

Have you guy's played with the POI's yet very cool for locating the nearest anything!!!!

My friend recently broke down on the HYW up going up north he did search for Auto repair shop and located one 2.4 miles away he called them they towed him in on a friday at 4:30 put a new fuel pump in and he was on his way to the Pound by 6:30.

Great for locating the nearest sporting goods stores, parks, lodging, food, whatever!!!!!!!

Good Luck!

I've noticed that, especially on Hwy 5 in Eden Prarie/Chanhassen. Probably because of road work. They probably ended up moving the road to the north/south a little when they were rebuilding it, and the map on the GPS isnt that up to date.

I've used my unit several times in the cities and like it was mentioned above, the further I zoom out the more likely-hood I was to be on the road/hwy w/ the cursor. I have found that most roads are right in their places and only a few are a tad off.

Remember though that the accuracy of the unit could be off as well.So when it says 0-20ft off, you have to compensate for that difference on the road as well.

My experience with the H20c and Lakemaster chip is it is dead on the money about everywhere I've gone in this state this winter.

There are many places where the road/hwy has been rerouted and you are nowhere near it though.

So I have 2 observations.

1- If you are way, way off the road. The road has been relocated after it was mapped.

2- If you are off by a little bit, it could be a few things. The first I would say is the accuracy of the signal at the moment. Most of the time, you have 20-30' accuracy while driving but if it was higher, you could be way off the road. If you are way off the road wherever you go, I would start to suspect a problem with the GPS unit itself.

Like I said, I've found it to be dead on darn near everywhere and when you are off, you are waaaaaaayyyyy off! You are usually way off because the road was rerouted and the basemap hasn't been updated yet.

Hi guys, I also have the lowrance unit.

A couple other things you have to consider:

1. Most roads have not been survey on the chip the way most lakes have.

2. Watch you pos error it could be you are as much as 25 to 80 ft. That is the timing of the satillites, location, there are hosts of other factors.

Try to follow the trail you have just made. Drive the same route over again it will have changed.

Plus the manufacture does not say all roads are died on.

I use mine mostly to find the access in the winter after dark. smile.gif

If you want to be to died on the money every time within 5ft. You'll need to get a big loan. Those gsp item sell for around $5000.00 smirk.gif Maybe some one who does survey work would let you use thiers.

Well, thanks for all the comments - good ones and smart a-- ones like Corey!!! smile.gif I can't believe I was driving in the ditch watching my GPS. Ha.

I really like the Lake Master chip in it but I wish all of the little lakes had some sort of depth contours on it even like the old DNR maps would be better than nothing. I looked at the mao of Winnie and couldn't believe all of the detail! Bruce Mosher

Bruce, and it is right on the money as well. You can drive out to the mid lake humps and stop your vehicle right on the breakline, auger 2-3 holes up the hump, 2-3 holes down the hump, and you will be spot on after checking the depth. Its unreal!

I'm not aware of any discrepancies with the roads, but it appears to me that the coordinates can be off on a lake as well. It seems that there may be lakes that are surveyed and mapped (recently) and lakes that are overlays of DNR maps? I was on Lake Calhoun (metro) this winter, and the locations were definitely not on. The H20 said I should be in 10ft, the Marcum said 19ft, and this was not a tight area. I was using the FishinLogician's unit, and so I had not read any of the instructions/clarifications regarding the units mapping capabilities. Maybe they account for the differences in accuracy in the instructions?

I must add, however, I did love the unit. Even with the slight offset on Lake Calhoun, I was able to find my spot relative to the information I was given. I'm sure the accuracy on "mapped" lakes is far superior, as hanson mentioned.

On a lake I fish a lot which only has the DNR overlay map on the chip I mapped out the depths on the unit my self as waypoints. Its way off on this lake and can mess with my head w/o the depths on there for reference points. Now they are there forever on the unit and will only get better as I enter more in the future!

Mine is also way off on Hwy 5 in EP and lots of 494 is off going north.

It has made Winnie a ton easier for a lot of people ( including me ) however so spots that werent so crowded 5 years ago are now like swiss cheese.

I just picked up an H20 C unit at the Sportshow last night along with the chip. Been doing a little searching for a camera style case for it, have not found too much. Anybody have any suggestions. I am going to stop at Best Buy and see what I can find as well. Also, anybody have a place to suggest to get my RAM mount for it? I have seen them online, but would like to look at them a bit before I buy.

Thanks-

I used the case that I had for my GlobalMap 100 which was retired after buying the H20C. That case was bought at Gander Mountain. I was there last night and noticed they were still selling them. Can't recall the name right now, but it fits perfect. It also has a pouch on the front where I carry spare batteries.

If you can pull a model and manufacture name of that case that would be great.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
