North American Fishin Club

Anyone in here know anything about this group. I got one of their mailings where "someone has nominated you" and this is what you'll get. Not that I'm a skeptic but i am fairly certain that nobody has nominated me for a membership in this club but I am wondering if this is something worthwhile or if I should save the money.

I'm a member and get the magazine. I can't say I'm too impressed. To me it's just another fishing magazine; of course I'm still interested in reading it thou. I've never taken advantage of any of the club offers, just in it for the reading. I get several other magazines as well, if you are looking for a new read I'd subscribe to 'In-Fisherman' over NAFC if you don't already get it. Oh, and yup, North American Fishing Club does seem to send a lot of 'gimmicky' junk mail.

I am (I'm ashamed to say) a lifetime member of the North American Fishing Club, and, while their magazine is OK, they are the hustlers of the fishing media.......Every month or more another SPECIAL offer of something....It has got to the point I don't even open thier mail anymore as I know it is JUNK!

It's a ripoff. All there magazine is is marketing from front to back, and they send you books to buy, but if you don't want to buy them they make you pay to ship them back.

They make a big deal out of testing products, and, send you an offer to purchase one of their Special products, and have you sign up for lure testing, etc, however, in the 8 years I have been a lifetime member, I have yet to see any products to test...........Scammers!

I echo everyone on this post. It is one of the worst mags out there devoted to fishing. They send you junk in the mail a couple times a month and they expect you to pay for the crappy books they send you. I also don't think there TV show is good either just a bunch of advertisements. mad.gif

I also agree, the junk mail is just out of hand with them. As far as the TV show, I find it hard to watch ANY fishing show anymore. I'm torn, because I like to watch, but just want to puke when the host refuses to call the net...the net. Instead he makes a point everytime they have a fish to say, "GET THE BECKMAN". Bleh

I was "lucky" enough to become a member one year. Some of the magazine articles were OK but when they starting sending books all the time without me ordering them, that did it. It got to be a real pain in the neck. I just started returning them to the PO unopened and told them to return them.

I got a membership mainly for the magazine. The magazine is okay, but not too informative. I got a "field test" product within the first month. It was one of those mesh bags to put in your livewell so that it's easier to get your fish out. It's nice...and it was free. They do send a lot of dump out. I haven't gotten any unsolicited books, but they'd be going right back if I did.

I received some books years ago & I just kept them. I didn't order them & I wasn't going to waste my time & money sending them back because I didn't appreciate the sales tactic. Never heard a complaint from them.

They sent me a coin of a bass, what kind of trash operation thinks I'm going to buy a coin because they sent it to me? I know they're local (at least they have an office in Minnetonka) but they real are a scam, preying on us bored fishermen when we can't go fishing and can't think about anything but fishing!!! crazy.gif

I made the mistake of joining that once...I got double billed for membership and it took a year and a few nasty letters to get it fixed. Now when I get mail from them it just gets tossed in the trash w/out ever opening it.

Man I wish someone could forward this discussion to the NAFC I think they have an opportunity to be better. Did I mention they gave me a fly and poison ivy ointment to try out in January?

I guess I'll be the one to step out on the limb crazy.gif

I kinda enjoy NAFC magizine. I'm just a memeber(not a life member). The magazine does have a lot of adds, but not nearly as much as In-Fisherman I believe. They do send a lot of junk mail, but I just toss it along with the 10 credit card offers I get each day. Big deal! They have alot more informative info than In-Fish. Like studies and survys. I received a test product last month and have been getting the mag for a little over 2 years now. Just my 2 cents!

Just as a clarification for everyone. Per US LAW and the United States Post Office, it is illegal to send an unsolicited item and expect payment or the individual to send it back.

If you did not request they send it, simply keep it. They cannot bill you for it. It is a free gift.

Thay sent me a book that I didn't want to pay for so I kept it and got another one about a month later. Kept both of them than got a notice in the mail every two weeks for a year saying they would cancel my membership if I didn't pay. I never paid and the very last thing I got from them was a notice saying they were refering this to a collection agency! Still never sent them back. That was a year ago and nothing has happened. Funny thing is my membership expired about 9 months ago and I'm still getting there magazines without ever paying for them.

Man I hope they didn't report you to a collections agency. It's that kind of stuff that makes me feel really scammed. I wouldn't mind keeping the stuff they send but I don't want to get into a big hassle.

You totally have the law on your side. And they know it . They wouldn't report you to collections because that would be the same as them turning themselves into the law.
